Bracknell Under 14 boys travelled to Cheddar in Somerset, for their annual end of season tour, taking part in the Revel rugby tournament, that included teams from across England & Wales.
With Chief Tour Guide Tom at the helm, he lead his intrepid explorers onto the pitch, where the action was fierce from the very start. Bracknell played with pace and courage, using the power of their forwards to make in roads into the opposition defence, while the backs used silky smooth running lines to get through the gaps. Some superb solo scores from George M and Fred B, coupled with some huge tackles and endless breakdown work by George N, were highlights of the opening matches. Bracknell's superb performance, placed them into the main cup competition for round two.
Back at base, Chieftain of Tour Rules, Tim, held those accountable for their misdemeanours, while the players enjoyed some team bonding shenanigans, much to the expense of the coaching team. Joviality and friendship shone through, with hot tubs plunged into, tales of the day conversed and exuberance at the pool table and bowling alley in abundance.
Day two saw Bracknell face a tough challenge in Bridgend RFC. The skills on show were incredible, with both teams playing some of the tournaments best rugby. The heart, ambition and determination from Bracknell, who recovered admirably from a poor start, was wonderful to see. Sadly, a loss placed Bracknell into a third place playoff. When this came about, Bracknell got stuck in and flourished. Finn B at scrum half ensuring the ball flew between phases, Will, Fin P and Oscar powering the scrum forward, Alex being a problem for the opposition every time he got his hands on the ball, Isaac making sure every ruck he hit, he cleared, Hayden blitzing down the wing, Max W always on the front foot and Zabi trying his very best to end up looking like he'd gone ten rounds with Tyson Fury! Every player deserves a mention, but trying to recall it all, whilst dressed as an inflatable dinosaur is anything but easy!
Bracknell came home full of smiles, and memories. There are many stories to be told and recounted for years to come I am sure. The future is bright for this amazing bunch of young men, who did everyone present and the club, very proud!
