Bracknell Rugby Club rolled into Newport I.O.W bright and early, sunblock and sunglasses at the ready, for some covering up a weekend's excess!! The day was hot from the start, lots of fluids and shade to keep the boys fresh.

The Bracknell Greens ( B team) got the campaign started against Cobham "A"
Oliver Bruce (captain) got us going with the toss, Cobham won and the match got
underway.
Within 2 minutes Cobham were 2-0 up from the start, poor tagging and a knock on
turnover.
Spencer Bounds then showed Cobham his speed by grabbing a try in the corner 2-1,
Cobham replied only for Spencer Bounds to strike again with a passing move that
looked good on the eye. Our boys were now getting into match, only for Cobham to
punish us twice in a row 5-3.

The boys attacked in force for Alistair Brown to finish a good move with a dab
down. Oliver Bruce scored next to bring the boys back into the game 5-4, he was
supporting the play well. The ball was turning over now frequently with Cobham
hitting us. Owen Marshall kept the boys in it with some good running, try
scored, looked good to us. Cobham came back at us, our attacking was good, but
our tagging at times was letting us down. Spencer Bounds grabbed a hat trick of
tries with a great solo run, straight through their defence. Cobham retaliated
with an excellent move, spreading the play, and a very impressive spin pass. But
the try of the game came with the smallest player, William Hullis, powering
through the middle to score a great try, well worked, sadly we lost 8-7. Cobham
were an impressive outfit so heads were held high.

Wanstead were next up. Oliver Bruce got us started well with an impressive run
through the middle, the boys were supporting well, giving Oliver options but he
finished well. Wanstead were disallowed on the line when their player dived, we
knocked on. However Wanstead had control of the game, this was due to our bad
defence, 7 tries scored!! Our boys chins stayed up and they kept trying, great
team spirit. Then the hard working Owen Marshall grabbed a brace in quick time
with good play. Sadly the super fast Wanstead player and boy was he fast scored
twice more 9-3, final score, maybe one to forget. The boys went back into shade
for some r&r and to refuel with plenty of fluid ready for the next game.

Heathfield were up next, a win was needed and after an "any given Sunday "
speech by Richard the boys were up for it and didn't disappoint.
The game didn't start too well, we were 2 down, but the boys dug deep and
Matther Knight wiggled through to make it 2-1, great work from a willing player
also available to make a run. Heathfield scored again 3-1, only for Ethan Lacey
to score 3-2, he went down after a brave run, he was carried off to a hero's
reception from the boys on the touch line. Heathfield made a mistake, good for
us, Spencer Bounds scored 4 tries in a row, trading with Heathfield he ran the
lines with good support from the boys, their tails were up. Heathfield slipped
again running in touch letting Billy Barnby finish the scoring with a well
deserved try, (hope Dad got a photo of that moment)
7-6 win a great result, the big speech helped!!

Our last pool game against Alton started well with a turnover ball, Edward
Boseley punishing Alton with a great catch and a very strong run, great job 1-0
to us. Alton replied 1-1. Spencer Bounds ran the lines again showing his turn
of speed to score 2-1. Then Alton struck 3 times, very poor tagging by the
boys, our defence was costing us. Ben Wright nicked 1, then 3 more by Alton
finished us. Alistair Brown and Spencer Bounds were both unlucky with knock
on's. William Hullis scored the final try for the Green's, great effort 7-4
loss.

Quarter final
We were up against U.S.P we saved our best till last. In the first half the
boys defended and attacked as a unit showing some great skills. Some of the
players were struggling with the heat. Spencer Bounds grabbed 2 tries in a row,
showing great running after a series of errors and knock on's the game came down
to the last 2 minutes. Alistair Brown showed his good hands to keep us 1 behind
but we run out of time 4-3 loss. We were going home.

So the boys have now finished their tagging career and enter the brave new world
of contact, hopefully building on the sucess of tagging and bring some
silverware back to the club.

A great weekend was had by all just a shame that the boys didn't get further.

A big thank you to all the coaches and Morag for a sucessful season and here is
