Results for the under 8 A team at the Reading Festival

This weekend the A&B teams took part in the Reading Rugby Festival. It was pleasing to see further improvement from both teams albeit not reflected I the results.

U8 - A team
1. Alex Titley
2. Christian Melhuish
3. James Gillard
4. Matthew Beresford
5. Louis Woodbridge
6. Matthew Haldane
7. Rui Wright
8. Scott Hopley
9. Sergio Grannum
10. William Wells

V Maidenhead – Lost 2-5
Tries: Matthew B and Rui
The A team first game was against familiar opposition from last week. Sadly a slow start left the team trailing at 0-2 at half time and although they had some good passing leading to Matthew’s try and a great angled run by Rui, Maidenhead had also run in three second half tries.

V Reading – Drew 3-3
Tries: Christian, Rui and Scott
A great darting run by William was unfortunate not to be rewarded with a try. With Reading up 2-0 Sergio cut the defence to score a great try and spark a fight back. A third try by Reading was followed by a great individual run by Christian to score his first try for the A team before Rui scored in the last move of the game to earn the draw.

V Readingensians - Lost 6-8
Tries: Matthew B (2), Matthew H, Rui, Scott and Sergio
A great game of end to end rugby which the A’s will feel they could have won. Matthew B picked up 2 tries with some strong running (one done the line and the other cutting across the pitch). Sergio also showed good pace to pass the defenders. Two tries were a direct result of some good passing (the third try had 3 or 4 good passes that split the defence. Matthew H scored the second try for the team due to good following up following Rui’s run.

V Beaconsfield – Drew 3-3
Tries: Matthew H and Alex (2)
Another try to Matthew H following up in support before a run from half way by Alex to score the second try. The final try to Alex came after another sequence of passes. A close game with good defence (particularly in the second half where no tries where scored) resulted in the second draw of the day.

At the end of the pool games the A’s finished in sixth with 2 points ahead of Newbury. Unfortunately this was not enough to make the play-off’s this time.
