U8-A team results from the Maidenhead Festival

This weekend the A&B teams took part in the Maidenhead Rugby Festival. The weather was perfect and the teams all showed improvements after last week’s tournament. The A team played 3 pool games followed by Semi-final and playoff for 3rd / 4th, while the B team played 5 pool games.

Team
1. James Gillard
2. Alex Titley
3. Louis Woodbridge
4. Sergio Grannum
5. Rui Wright
6. Matthew Beresford
7. William Wells
8. Zach Phillips
9. Scott Hopley
10. Matthew Haldane

v Henley – Won 4-3
Tries: Louis, Sergio, Zack and Matthew H
A close fought game. The team were great in defence and had some excellent tags. Also a little (accidental) help by Coach Phil saved a try. Some very good forward runs by Williams and Zach and good passing leading to a great team effort against the eventual winners of the tournament.

v Maidenhead – Drew 5-5
Tries: Alex, Sergio and Matthew B (3)
A excellent first half team effort with good passing mixed with good runs by Matthew B and Zach. Unfortunately some missed tags in the 2nd half allowed Maidenhead to take the lead before the last move equaliser by Matthew B. Some decisions went against the team which could have changed the result but great spirit shown by the team.

v Marlow - Lost 2-5
Tries: William and Zach
A lot of the earlier good work was undone in this game where the team lost a bit of concentration in the 2nd half after being level at 2-2 at half time. This was a bit of a tough encounter though with teams exhibiting some rough play.

At the end of the pool games Bracknell were level on points (7) with Maidenhead, with Henley on 9 and Marlow on 6.

Semi-Final (2nd v 3rd team).
v Maidenhead - Lost 3-5
Tries: James (2), Louis
A very closely contested game. Sadly though the game slipped away in the first half with Maidenhead running in 3 tries to 1. A spirited fight back in the second half and but for a few suspect decisions the result may have been closer.

3rd/4th Playoff
v Marlow - Lost 4-5
Tries: James, Sergio, Zach and Scott
A much closer game than the pool match which the team lead for much of the game. A slightly more physical Marlow team fought through at the end though to snatch the game. Despite the loss the team showed great sportsmanship.
