A new season and a new set of rules, a whole new era, CONTACT RUGBY for the U9's

The boys turned up bright and early in Windsor, on a very hot October day, this was the first festival in a row of 3. Kick of time 1030 for both the A and B teams, matches being played under the shadow of Windsor Castle, sadly the Queen was out, so unable to cheer our boys on.

After a late replacement of Jack Riley for Toby Jackson and Matthew Knight making a mad dash from the club, well done Matthew.

The coaches organised the boys into a team with 3 forwards and 6 backs, all the boys with a place and an understanding of the new rules.

First match we were up against Richmomd, there were some big boys in their team but our boys were not fazed. The game started and the ball went down in a ruck with Bracknell winning a penalty, as Richmond were coming in at the side, we took the penalty with Spencer Hayhow starting a drive, which became a maul. The ball worked out with half back Jed Crerar feeding the ball to Elliot DesForges who was unlucky to knock on. Richmond then did a forward pass only to win the ball back in the centre and cut through the Bracknell defence, which was unlucky 1-0.
Bracknell won a penalty with the storming Spencer Hayhow, taking half the Richmond team with him, even taking a high tackle, to be felled just short of the line, unlucky after a great run. Spencer soon made up for that with a great strong try in the centre, we were in business 1-1, 1st half over, great effort, some great tackles by Aden Studd, Jed Crerar and Tom Lawton-Davies.
The boys started the 2nd half well with great play, but Richmond scored which was unlucky, because the boys deserved more especially after a great attack with Elliott missing out, as the ref said forward pass. Our rucking needed to improve, but the tackles were improving throughout the game, attack is our strength with a lot of attacking options, all through the 12. We just needed to believe in spreading the play wide as Richmond were narrow. We lost 2-1, very close.

After a long break in the sun the boys were up against Worthing.
Worthing started taking the ball in touch, the boys defended well with Tom Lawton-Davies producing 2 corkers in the centre, great work Tom.
After various scrums and knock on's Worthing scored which was harsh on the lads, half-time came the game was close to call.
The 2nd half started the same as the first, contested well by both sides. A bad tackle came in from Worthing, which got us a penalty. The boys so read the play to the left wing which was good on the eye. Spencer Bounds unloaded to Elliott to have it called forward, the least it could be was flat, the crowd said otherwise. Fine margins it was very close, but we lost 1-0. Unlucky as the boys performed very well to come away with a lose.

Windsor next, an old enemy. They were physical in tag, so we knew what we were up against. Their forwards powered through and tested the boys metal to the limit, and they came up with the goods, Windsor in the corner pushed out. A great move by the backs resulted in Elliott dropping in the corner, on another day it would of worked. After a physical encounter including high tackles and shirt pulling they were warned about their conduct. We went 1-0 down at half time.
Second half started with surging runs from the forwards Jack Riley drawing defender just failing to unload, bad luck. Aden Studd did some strong runs in midfield. Windsor surged forward sapping the Bracknell defence, but they held the line. Sam Reynolds broke the game line with a cracking run, we were turning the game. Oscar Clark clashed heads with a lad but recovered to play on, the clock was ticking, for Alex Lennon to do a great line unloading to Jed to score a cracking try in the corner. 1-1 final score, a great game, massive improvement, and lots of well deserved praise for the boys.

Next up premiership boys Saracens, a change on shirts and we were off. The boys saved the best till last, they defended well, broke the game line well and produced three great tried. Jed poached a great try first to be followed by 2 powerful forward tries by Spencer Hayhow. Great display, top marks.

Next up Maidenhead, bring it on.

Tries
Spencer Hayhow 3
Jed Crerar 2
