Two teams went to the Abbey Shield on Sunday and came away with a collective record of 7 wins, 2 draws and no defeats:
Bracknell A 3 v 0 Newbury
Bracknell A 4 v 0 Swindon
Bracknell A 2 v 0 Reading
Bracknell A 3 v 0 Redingensians
Bracknell A 1 v 1 Abbey
Bracknell A 2 v 1 Wallingford
Bracknell B 5 v 0 Wallingford
Bracknell B 6 v 1 Newbury
Bracknell B 3 v 3 Abbey
A tremendous performance by both teams who were much better than most of the opposition on the day. Three games stood out; the two against Abbey who were a much improved team from the fixture we had with them earlier in the season and the final A team game against Wallingford which was the decider of the U9 trophy (and although we didn't know at the time for the whole Abbey shield accross all age groups that was won by Bracknell with Wallinford second by the closest of margins). The decisive try in that game came from a wonderful passage of play with 2 lots of quick ruck ball and then a quick transfer away from the breakdown through 3 pairs of hands to the wing for the score. Everything we have been trying to get the boys to do this season that made at least one jetlagged and grumpy coach smile!
So the A team unbeaten record for the season survives to the final two weeks - roll on Newbury!
