Losses all around; although these results didn't portray fairly how the team played. Even with the help of Alfredo Lalanne from London Irish who turned up to help us the boys had a difficult morning. The first game against Staines we were up against a well organized and
physical side, the second and third games were well within our reach and we should have won! The final game against Pullborough, we were slightly outclassed again by a talented side.
In terms of performance, the forwards were excellent in particularly in the scrum were we drove many packs totally off the ball. In the rucks the driving and commitment were excellent, although on too many occasions the forwards were going into contact and not making the ball available. In terms of the backs, we lost early tries in the first 2 games by not protecting the wings, but this was soon righted by Toby Hulis with some excellent defensive tackling to prevent scores. Overall however, tackling was still our week point, giving away a handful of trys from set plays, as the opposing ran straight through us.
Credit however has to go for "man of the tournament" Liam Collins who's tackling and sheer commitment (even after a handful of knocks) showed example to those lads that have been playing a lot longer than just 4 weeks. All the boys seemed to have a great time and enjoyed the competitive nature of all the games. And they never let their heads drop which was good to see.
