Brackenll too strong for Camberley

Bracknell RFC Under 10's entertained Camberley Under 10's in a home fixture at Lily Hill Park on Sunday 13th December 2009. It was a cold but thankfully for the boys a dry Sunday morning for a change. As is normal practice with these fixtures, we went through a couple of drills, one for the backs and one for the forwards. We were fortunate to be offered the assistance of one of the Bracknell Seniors, Tom King, whose input and attendance was very much appreciated.

The B Teams played each other twice and with Bracknell coming out on top on both occasions; The final scores being 3-1 and 4-1 respectively. Both games followed a similar pattern, with the Bracknell forwards completely dominating the opposition, especially in open play, at the breakdown, where Alec, Peter and Liam put in a tremendous effort. The scrums were keenly contested, with Bracknell just about edging the contest here. The line outs were very even throughout.

The backs, especially the wings saw little of the ball in hand throughout but when presented with the few opportunities they received, Jordan, Declan on the wings and Cameron and Jamie, as centres made good ground throughout. Toby at Scrum Half and James at Outhalf combined very well on several occasions, making penetrating runs into opposition territory, with Toby scoring a fine try from one of these breaks. All the backs put some great tackles in, not alowing Camberley to get any rhythm into their play. Overall it was a fantastic team performance. All the backs made telling contributions, despite the lack of ball to hand. I am convinced, that had we got the ball out wide quicker the margins of victory would have been greater. This is an area we have to work on a bit more.

These were games controlled and primarily won with Forward Play, which is fantastic to watch. I would not normally single out a player for special mention, but there was a truly outstanding performance from Liam in the Front Row, scoring six of the seven tries. The great thing here was the way Liam was driven over the line for a few of these tries with five or six of the boys involved each time.

We are constantly improving, and the trend will continue upwards. A great effort by all, and you should all be proud of this performance.

The standard has been set, and we must strive to achieve this level of performance consistently.
