Yes Sir....

Training report

Yesterday’s session was smaller in numbers than usual due to half term, but we had some guest appearances from the u9 and u10 squads. The intent yesterday was to use a number of drills to build up some skills that we need to use in our matches:
1. Support and Movement into Space
2. The basic tackling skill
3. Passing, and adding in 1v1 tackling.

I am keeping the report short this week as it’s important that we reiterate the messages that were given before training.

1. Discipline must be kept at all times. This may be the most important life skill rugby teaches us.
To be clear we will not tolerate back chat to referees.
The only way to address a referee in rugby is “Yes Sir”, hopefully not to often, but followed with “Sorry Sir”.
We have seen too many issues in the last few weeks, and the team is starting to be punished. Moving forward not only will a player be removed from a match, but risks missing the next match or festival if the coaches see fit. If we play 8v9 or 7v9 so be it. It stops now!

2. Most of our festivals enable us to take two teams. In these cases we will take all those we can subject to basic skills ( this is about safety).
Where we can only take one side, we will clearly communicate to all who is selected and who is invited to training.
The coaches will select the sides. We are happy to discuss anyone’s progress, but not to debate whether selection is right.

We all volunteer our time to manage and coach, so we just ask for your support.

Newbury are our guests next week at Lily Hill Park. We are expecting about 30, so please update Teamer so we know who is coming!

Many thanks
Steve E
