Bracknell Under 14s Power Past Reading

Matt Bond20 Oct - 08:14

A strong win in Round 2 of The Berkshire Youth Cup for the under 14s

Bracknell were well prepared for the match with a good warmup and lots of positive conversation conversations about how they would approach the game and work on those areas they have been practising in training.

As the game kicked off , Reading used their big forwards to try and make inroads however excellent defence, led by Finn P, meant there was no way through. Bracknell took an early lead with Braxton taking the ball at the blind side And showing good pace to score in the left hand corner Freddy Brown then converted from the touch line to make the score 7-0.
The boys soon made it 14-0, With Charlie showing his usual speed on the outside and touching down under the post for an easy conversion.

As the game continued, Bracknells rucking was superb (As mentioned by the opposition’s coaches at the end of the game). Despite the size of the Reading pack, Bracknell were dominating the breakdown and with the backs making excellent ground, it was one way traffic. James Foster made an excellent break down the wing with good support from Charlie and Braxton seeing Braxton attempt to score under the post… The Swan dive proved a step too far with the grounding being more NFL than rugby.

Further pressure from Bracknell lead to a good team effort result, with Riley scoring in the corner and Freddy narrowly missing the conversion to make it 19-0. George M then battled his way over from short range with another easy conversion making the score at halftime 26-0.

The second half was tougher with Kayden getting injured and Finley B stepping in after playing for the Devs. Whilst Reading kept coming at the boys and did claw two tries back, The boys regrouped and continued to play rugby with Charlie going over for his second try of the game.

Overall, it was an excellent performance with great rucking great tackling and real progress. Special mention to Will in the forwards who battled hard and Alex Ali who played his first half in the back row where we think he might stay after a good shift.

Freddy Brown player of the match, great running, kicking and game control.

Onwards and upwards!
