Tough Test for Bracknell Under 14 Development Squad

Tough Test for Bracknell Under 14 Development Squad

Matt Bond20 Oct - 08:29

Bracknell Under 14 Development endured a hard day at the office, as they faced a strong Tadely RFC squad

With so many players unavailable, the task at hand was always going to be tough for the Bracknell lads, but in true rugby spirit, they never took a backward step or let their heads drop.

A slow start saw Bracknell immediately on the back foot. Lacklustre tackling, poor kick chase and needless mistakes, saw the lads in green three tries down in the opening minutes. What was needed was a spark and it finally came when the Bracknell boys began to put the phases together and power up the pitch. The relentless pace and pressure forced Tadley into poor discipline and multiple penalties marched Bracknell deep into the Tadley 22 metre area.

A precision kick into the corner from Zabi gave the attacking line out. Swift deluver from Cam was collected by Daniel and offloaded into the hands of Hayden. Slick hands through Alfie and Finn and quick recycing at the breakdown thanks to powerful rucking from Rowan and Harry popped the ball back to a charging Daniel, who barrelled over to score. Alfie added the extras and Bracknell were in the ascendency. Out on the wing, Oliver T was rapid in attack and strong in defence, while at full back, TK found himself getting into the match, with some strong running and superb cover tackling. A few injuries lead to some shuffling of position just before half time, but Bracknell remained largely in control until half time.

After half time, Tadley came on strong, and scored some well worked tries out wide, exploiting the narrowed Bracknell defence. Tawen returned to action with some thunderous tackles, while in the pack, Cam, Benn and Greg carried the ball forward at every oppurtunity. In the scrum, Bracknell dominated, with new prop Kieren showing his strength. Across the field, Harry was on a mission to jackal as many balls as he could, while Hayden tried to nip through the smallest of gaps whenever they appeared. Oliver H and Henry B both got their hands on the ball in the midst of the action, each slotting into new positions this week. Austin appearance was short due to injury, so didnt get to show his trademark side stepping.

The final score line did not reflect the match in the truest sense. Bracknell, were for a majority of the match, equal to Tadley, but allowed themselves to be beaten with simple width and passing. Some hard lessons to learn. But Bracknell should be proud of their battle throughout the fixture, their undying ambition to carry on going forward and a clearly evidenti sens of team and belonging.

Player of the Match went to Oliver T for his phenomenal work rate, strong running in attack and work in defence.
