Job Done - Qualified for National 17 Competition

Huw Pearce26 Feb 2012 - 14:51

The bonus point that was need was wrapped up by half time, but the win was still not a given. Second half the pressure was kept up and the win same.

The game was a must win with bonus point to gain qualification in to the first round of the National U17 Competition for Bracknell. Oxford Harlequins just needed the win; so it was all to play for on a bright warm sunny morning at Broadmoor RFC.

Bracknell came out the blocks from the kick off playing controlled high tempo rugby. The first try came after just 5 minutes from Jasper. Another 5 minutes and the second try came for Nat almost under the posts which Kieran duely converted albeit of a post!

The Bracknell backs were wondering when they were going to get their hands on the ball the forwards were doing such good work. The backs chance came and the ball was swept quickly wide and Jake was away but was just not able to elude the last man's tackle. However, another chance came from a couple of good drives by forwards before the ball passed quickly down the backs for Jake to score in the corner.

Oxford Harlequins did not give up and broke into the Bracknell 22, where they had a couple penalties awarded and on the second spun the ball quickly wide and scored a try wide on the their right. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

The Bracknell team kept going and as the first half came to an end another swift transfer of ball along the backs gave Henry a try in the corner. Kieran just failed with the conversion attempt with the ball dropping just under the crossbar.

Half time Bracknell 22 Oxford Harlequins 5. Game still on with all to play for in the second half.

The Bracknell squad were told to keep playing for the full 70-minutes as the game is not won until the final whistle.

Bracknell kept up the pressure and scored another try by Lewis after a good 8 & 9 move up the narrow side from a scrum on the Bracknell left.

Oxford Harlequins entered a better period of play for them and gogt a deserved try wide on their left was converted well.

Bracknell did not let their heads drop and after sustained pressure in the opposition 22, Marcus crashed over for a try wide on the bracknell left. Kieran just missed the conversion, hitting the post and boucing off the arong way.

Final score
Bracknell 32 (6x try [Jasper, Nat, Jake, Henry, Lewis, Marcus, 1x conversion [Kieran])
Oxford Harlequins 12 (2xtry, 1x conversion)
