Missing a few regulars, we sent out a mixed squad to pitch 2 to try and gain revenge for losing at Wallingford 3 weeks ago.
Bracknell played uphill in the first half, and early pressure resulted in a penalty which Louis W slotted to go 3-0 up. Bracknell continued to dominate, with the backs spreading the ball wide on several occasions to stretch the defence, and eventually this gave the forwards an opening to drive through and push Kyle over the line to go 10-0 ahead. The rest of the first half was more even with both teams going end to end, and Wallingford sneaked a late penalty to make it 10-3 at half time.
The second half began with Wallingford camping in our 22 and we struggled to escape. Eventually Scott broke away for a kick and chase but was deliberately blocked, and Louis scored another penalty to stretch our lead to 13-3. It was then Bracknell's turn to produce some quality rugby, and a long flowing move resulted in Scott diving over to score in the right corner, we were 18-3 in the lead. Wallingford didn't give up and drove to our line, scoring under the posts but somehow missing the conversion to bring the score to 18-8. Bracknell finished as the stronger team, albeit twice dropping the ball when the line was in sight, and 18-8 ended up as the final score.
Given that we had some late dropouts and players covering different positions, it was an excellent performance from all the Colts, with great effort for the full 70 minutes.
Stronger tests are ahead with OBB league matches v Henley and Windsor in the next 2 weeks, so this win coming on the back of the one v Bicester the week before sets us up nicely.
