Following Grove RFC withdrawing from our OBB league fixture, we managed to organise a friendly fixture at Witney RFC in Oxfordshire.
Our squad of 26 played their 22 in glorious sunshine, but we were still asleep when they scored down from a breakaway down their left wing in the first few minutes to lead 7-0. Some very even play followed, we challenged really well, and finally got our reward when some great passing interplay with Matteo allowed Liam to score and then convert to level things at 7-7. Witney then scored via an interception, and Liam's penalty hit the upright at the end of the half, so we went in 14-7 down at the break.
We rolled a number of subs at half time to bring on some fresh legs, but again were caught napping as they scored down the right wing after only a couple of minutes. The remainder of the half was competitive and even, but as players tired and play became scrappy Witney scored a final try to secure a 26-7 win.
Thank you to all the Colts (and parents!) who travelled, everyone got some useful game time and we gave a solid account of ourselves against strong opposition.
Next week we have home A&B friendlies against Newbury, so we're looking forward to delivering a great performance against local rivals. #GoBRFC
