Bracknell made the perfect start to the match, with Harry M-D crossing for the opening try after some positive early pressure. The visitors looked full of confidence, but Grasshoppers responded strongly, scoring three tries in quick succession to take control of the contest.
To Bracknell's credit, heads never dropped. Hayden danced his way over for Bracknell's second try, showing excellent footwork and attacking intent to keep his side firmly in the game. At half-time, Grasshoppers held a 17-10 advantage.
The hosts struck first after the restart to extend their lead, but Bracknell responded superbly. Dominating possession and territory for long periods, the Berkshire side played some of their best rugby of the season, showing determination, physicality and attacking ambition. On several occasions they came agonisingly close to crossing the whitewash and were unfortunate not to turn their dominance into more points.
Their perseverance was finally rewarded with the very last play of the game. An outstanding team try, built through multiple phases and excellent support play, saw the ball moved wide to Fletcher, who beat the final defender and touched down in the corner. Finn B then added the extras from the conversion to bring Bracknell within five points.
Unfortunately, the final whistle followed immediately afterwards, leaving the score at Grasshoppers 22, Bracknell 17.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Bracknell to take away. The squad showed tremendous character, commitment and desire throughout the contest, particularly considering they were once again operating with just one substitute available. Their second-half performance demonstrated real promise and highlighted the progress being made by the group.
Player of the Match awards reflected the team's efforts. The players voted Harry M-D as their Players' Player of the Match, recognising his outstanding all-round contribution and opening score. Meanwhile, the coaches awarded Henry their Player of the Match accolade following what was arguably his best performance in a Bracknell shirt. Henry excelled in the scrum, made a series of powerful carries, and was relentless at the breakdown, setting the standard for work rate and commitment throughout the game.
While the result did not go Bracknell's way, the performance showed a team full of potential, spirit and determination, with plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the fixtures ahead.
