Match report by Ian Manners

Sunday 28th April and Bracknell U13’s squad entered two teams in the inaugural Reading Rams 7’s tournament at their Bath Road ground. It is a game based on the RFU new format adapted to meet U13’s regulations. There were squads with 7 players and 5 rolling subs. The games were played on half a pitch 70m x 50m with 7 point scores in the Max Zone which was marked adjacent to where the posts normally are and 5 points scored outside the Max Zone
Bracknell 1 kicked off their first game with a 38-19 win against Reading Rams 1.Try scorers :- Charlie Garratt 3, Ben Burton 1, James Waller 1, Sam Pemberton 1.
The next game was very close against Reading 1 but BRFC ran out winners 22-17 with tries by James Waller 2, Charlie Garratt 1 and Harvey Goddard 1.
Next up was a 45-5 win against Reading Rams 3 with tries by Sam Pemberton 5, James Allen 1, Seb Corley 1, Ben Burton 1 and Geoffrey Manners 1.
The next game was against Newbury 1 who we had lost to 3 times during the U13’s 13 a side season including the Plate Final of the Berkshire U13’s Cup game, so the boys expected this would be the toughest game of the tournament.
However Bracknell proved to be far too strong for Newbury this time and ran out comfortable winners 38-14 with tries by Sam Pemberton 3, James Waller 2 and Geoffrey Manners 1.
The 5th game of the group was against Reading Rams 2 and this time it was another win for the Bracknell boys, 33-10. Tries by Harvey Goddard 2, Rufus Dibley 2, Ben Burton 1 and Drew Halley 1.
Finally to complete a clean sweep the boys saw off Newbury 2, 47-0 with tries by Sam Pemberton 3, Charlie Garratt 2, James Waller 1 and Geoffrey Manners 1.
It was a great afternoon of rugby with some great attacking and defending by the Bracknell team with good support play and massive commitment by all the players. Everyone played very well with a well balanced mix of players from Bracknell’s Hurricanes and Stormers squads who were selected on their perceived ability to perform well in the 7’s version of the game.
