Report by Ian Manners

On another clear dry day but with a biting northerly wind blowing across Pitch 4, Bracknell Hurricanes U13’s took to the field to play host to Reeds Weybridge, who had beaten them convincingly 30-5 at Weybridge before Christmas.
Bracknell got off to a storming start and within five minutes, lock Sam Sershall blasted over the Reeds line after 12 phases of sustained pressure on the Reeds defence, 5-0 to the Hurricanes.
Thereafter it became a close fought battle in midfield with some terrific tackling and running rugby from both sets of players before outside centre Ben Burton broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. receiving the ball on the Bracknell 10 metre line and scoring another of his trademark tries, 10-0.
Five minutes later Bracknell full back, Harry Mills caught a Reed’s clearance kick in midfield and went on one of his weaving runs before offloading to Ben Burton in support who drove over the line to score.
Half Time Bracknell Hurricanes 15-0 up.
Within 38 seconds of the start of the second half debutant prop, Charlie Goddard, picked a loose ball straight from the kick off and with great strength and power in contact, knocked over a few of the Reed’s defenders to score his first try for the team.
12 minutes into the half and Sam Sershall scored his second try after scrum half, Jamie Lovell, (who had replaced George Larks at half time) gave him a short pass close in and Sam smashed his way over with at least 3 Reed’s defenders hanging on to him.
A minute later, fly half Geoffrey Manners followed up a dropped pass by the Reeds backs and kicked on a couple of times for winger Conor McGee, who had his best game of the season, to pick up and dive over to score, 30-0.
It was all Bracknell by now and despite the brave attempts by the Reeds players to stem the flow Bracknell ran the ball again for Ben Burton to score his hat trick, 35-0 to the Hurricanes.
Shortly after the kick off and on the last play of the game, winger James Waller broke up-field, supported by Charlie Goddard who released the ball to inside centre Rudy Smith who ran over unopposed to score Bracknell’s 8th try, 40-0 to Bracknell.
Although it was a massive turnaround in Bracknell’s favour from the battering they took at Weybridge earlier in the season, it was certainly not an easy win. The Reeds players never gave up and battled to the end.
The Hurricane’s dominance was achieved by good teamwork with every player playing their part. It was difficult with so many good performances for the Bracknell coaches to pick a Man of the Match. However the Reeds coaches and Captain were given the task and they selected Ben Burton.
For the Bracknell coaches it was good to see the progression in all the players development and the rise in their confidence.
