Stormers 30 - 20 Horsham
BRFC Tries - Charlie Goddard (5), Dylan Applin (1)
A great winter's day for a long drive and a game of rugby.
Stormers lost two forwards to illness and so had no substitutes. Thankfully William E, George L and James W kindly stood in from Canes.
Thanks also to Titus for stepping up as hooker.
Fresh on the heels of a Canes victory (20-10) the boys started the game in good spirits and without the usual first five minutes of confusion.
Horsham fielded a fair B team with one incredibly large boy and a couple of strong runners. But the Stormers were in a fine physical mood and, thanks to stand-out tackling performances from Harvey, Hayden, Oliver and Ollie, we
were able to consistently shut down the big runners. Most of our tries came from breakaways by Charlie showing strong running and the ability to break multiple tackles. But the platform that enabled this showed great gutsy performances from all the boys.
Rucking seemed much improved and we turned over a great deal of opposition ball. Equally as important was the improvement in distribution - where we saw more examples of the ball going through hands, the best example being Dylan Applins's try 30 yards and 7 pairs of hands; Dylan's performance earning him the title of man of the Match. Despite receiving an "interesting" yellow card the boys rallied well and didn't concede any tries while playing with 12.
Overall a great and well deserved result and some really positive signs of improvement across the squad.
