Bracknell U13A Hurricanes get the blues

Sunday January 13th saw Bracknell Hurricanes U13A Team host local rivals Newbury Blues in the second group game of The Berkshire Cup.
Having lost to The Blues home and away earlier in the season the Hurricanes were looking to build on the success of their win against Redingensian Rams and turn the tables on the Blues.
However on another dry day Bracknell got off to the worst possible start by leaking 4 tries as a result of poor tackling and within 12 minutes finding themselves 20-0 down.
The Hurricanes rallied and for the next 18 minutes of the half they battled back and began to dominate the game going close to scoring on several occasions before once again as a result of poor tackling they allowed The Blues in for another soft try and found themselves 25-0 down as the half time whistle blew.
After another inspirational half time talk by Head Coach Daimon Evans the boys started the second half with a more focussed attitude and after a flowing backs move centre Ben Burton stormed over for an excellent try 25-5.
Four minutes later against the run of play The Blues scored again and Bracknell were 30-5 down.
The Hurricanes grew in confidence and kept pressing the Newbury line. A quick tap penalty by scrum half George Larks and a short pass allowed prop Eddie Blackman to barrel his way over the line to score a well deserved try before being replaced by Jenson Harpin for the last few minutes.
The final whistle saw a score line of 35-10 to Newbury who ran out deserved winners as they always do their best to play attacking running rugby. Scrum half George Larks was voted Man of The Match for Bracknell for a very good all round performance.
