Once again on a sunny, dry but chilly day Bracknell Hurricanes took to the pitch against Reeds Weybridge for two 25 minute halves.
It wasn’t long before Bracknell found themselves 5-0 down a s a result of poor tackling against some big powerful Reeds backs.
In the next 10 minutes poor tackling again allowed Reeds to score three further tries. After the fourth at 20-0 down the Hurricanes players began to rally strongly and started to play with more commitment and controlled aggression. They spent the next 10 minutes predominantly in the Reeds half and came very close to scoring before the whistle for the half time break.
After a stern talking to by Head Coach Daimon Evans, the Bracknell players looked a different team from the start of the second half.
They took the game to Reeds and began to dominate going close to scoring on several occasions. Unfortunately against the run of play Reeds scored again after strong running by their big centres. Another score by Reeds followed and Bracknell found themselves 30-0 down.
Bracknell rallied and from a quick tap penalty near the Reeds line Eddie Blackman crashed over to score. Rudy Smith went over for another score shortly afterwards and insisted after the game that he had grounded the ball cleanly, but the referee, who was slow keeping up with play ruled it was held up because one of the Reeds players had got their hands under the ball, so disallowed the try.
The final score being 30-5.
Overall it was a good second half performance by the Bracknell Hurricanes and it was encouraging that the boys had responded to Daimon’s ‘hairdryer treatment’ at half time!
Seb Corley was awarded ‘Player of the Day’ by the Reeds captain after the game. Seb and Eddie tackled like demons throughout the game but the others can be congratulated for the extra commitment they put in during the second half.
