A game of two halves; won one, lost one... Actually four quarters; won two lost two !

Despite the planning, a well prepared BRFC team were met by HWRFC wanting to play one match with non-playing boys in a joint training session - and we said no !!
We then agreed to play 4 quarters, with the strongest sides playing the first quarter, and subs gradually being fed such that the last quarter was all B team players. Even that didn't go to plan and eventually our A team ended up playing the first 2 quarters, and B team the second 2.
HWRFC and BRFC-A were in a tight contest. Good rugby, good physicality and commitment and fairly equally matched in all departments. Despite this HWRFC scored first. BRFC kept their heads up and the competition was strong. Unfortunately HWRFC managed to run in 3 more tries before the end of the first quarter.
BRFC kept their heads high and upped their game scoring two tries to one in the second quarter leaving the final score at 25 - 10 to the home team.
Even though it was a defeat, there were a lot of positives to take away from the day not least of all Rufus who enjoyed his first game with BRFC. Tries cored by James Branch and Oliver Anderson, both on their A-team debut. Well done guys.

It was then the turn of BRFC-B team. HWRFC fielded another team that provided good competition. From the first whistle, BRFC showed they wanted to compete and wanted to score. Even though the physicality and commitment was again equally matched, BRFC managed to score a number of tries, most of which were long range efforts. Breaking free from rucks and breaking through the defence the boys ran well and ran hard scoring five tries to HWRFC's two in their 1st quarter. It was time for the last interval before the last quarter. HWRFC seemed to change their approach and despite what was agreed an hour before, the team HWRFC put out in the last quarter was loaded with the stronger players from their team that played the first quarter. BRFC kept going, played well, and need to be really proud of their effort. HWRFC ran in four tries to BRFC's one which meant the final score was 30 -30. Tries scored by Sam Sershall, Hayden Eves, Harvey Goddard and William Taverner.
We could've come away feeling robbed of victory - but that's not our style. We played some very good rugby and the coaches were very pleased with the progress that's been made, particularly in the last few weeks. We're happy with the quality of rugby, and very happy with the attitude of the boys. Keep on growing guys.
