BRACKNELL HURRICANES BLOW COLD AGAINST NEWBURY BLUES

On yet another fine day for rugby, Bracknell Hurricanes U14A took to Newbury’s first team pitch to take on Newbury Blues U14A in the first round of the Berkshire Cup after hold a minute silence together to remeenber those who game so much for use..

Newbury kicked off and five minutes later their No. 8 picked up from the base of the scrum on Bracknell’s 22 and raced in unopposed to score under the posts, 5-0 to Newbury.
Four minutes later from a lineout close to Bracknell’s try line, Newbury called a training ground move for their No.8 to peel off the back of the lineout and wraparound to the front to score wide out, 10-0 to Newbury.
Straight from the kick-off Newbury’s tall pacey winger caught the ball and ran straight back to bounce off one tackler and score under the posts. This time the try was converted, 17-0 to Newbury.
The half continued in the same vein with Bracknell’s player's missing tackles and Newbury ran in four more tries to finish the half 45-0 up.
Although it seemed like a 45-0 drubbing, Newbury certainly had the rub of the green with the bounce of the oval ball always seeming to be in On another day it might have gone Bracknell’s way.

The half started with the Hurricanes at last getting into the game and beginning to play like the coaches know they can. However in the next fifteen minutes Newbury scored two well worked tries by their backs. Five minutes later and against the run of play Newbury scored again under the posts to lead 62-0.
This time Bracknell bounced back and after a series of penalties out of defence by fly-half Zach P., centre Geoffrey M. put in a long searching kick into the right corner close to Newbury’s try line. Wing Ben B. followed up to tackle the Newbury fullback who gave away a penalty for not releasing the ball. A further series of penalties to Bracknell and play moved left. Another penalty to Bracknell and big Sam S. powered towards the line and offload to fellow second-rower, Will T. who dived over the line to score wide out for a hard-fought consolation try to Bracknell. The game finishing 62-5 to Newbury.
The coaches were pleased with the Hurricanes commitment in the second half but we must learn to focus right from the start and work hard to support each other, win more ball at the breakdown and put in their first-up tackles.

The Bracknell coaches nominated Rudy Smith with the Man of The Match award for a great game after returning from an ankle injury. The Newbury coaches nominated their No.8 as Man of The Match.
