STORMING PERFORMANCE BY BRACKNELL HURRICANES U14A AGAINST BASINGSTOKE U14A

On the road again and this time Bracknell Hurricanes were up against Basingstoke U14A at Basingstoke’s ground. Due to unavailability and injuries, Bracknell only had 12 players. However, as Basingstoke have a big squad they sportingly lent us three players to start with one prop and two wingers and a fullback and two wingers in the second half.
In spite of the recent heavy rain, the pitch was in perfect condition.
Basingstoke kicked off and after 11 minutes of equal play, Basingstoke called a blindside move from the base of the scrum for their fly-half to score in the right-hand corner. The conversion was missed, 5-0 to Basingstoke.
Four minutes later at a scrum 30 metres out from Basingstoke’s line, Bracknell’s No. 8 James W. picked up from the base of the scrum and used his pace to score. Zach P. converted, 7-5 to Bracknell.
Basingstoke came back strongly and pressed Bracknell’s line. From a 5 metre scrum in Bracknell’s favour, scrum-half George L got the ball away and it was moved quickly through the backs hands to outside centre, Charlie G who broke free and with a superb handoff against Basingstoke’s biggest player ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts, Zach P. converted, 14-5 to Bracknell.
Basingstoke bounced back and drove over Bracknell’s line to score. Their fly-half converted, 14-12 to Bracknell.
Shortly before half time, Captain Sam S. took a quick tap penalty close to Basingstoke’s line to crash over and score. Zach P. converted to go in 21-12 up at the break.
Straight from the kick-off Basingstoke’s centre caught the ball and made an outside break up the touchline. As he was tackled into touch he offloaded to their No.7 flanker who ran in to score under the posts. Their fly-half converted. 21-19 to Bracknell and it was game on.
Minutes later from a line out No.8 James W. broke off the back to run in and score. Zach P. converted, 28-19 to Bracknell.
From another lineout, the ball was offloaded and reset at the ensuing ruck. Quick ball from Ollie B. at scrum-half to Geoffrey M. at fly-half and Geoffrey put Zach P. into space to make a break and score under the posts from 40 metres out. Zach converted. 35-19 to Bracknell.
Basingstoke’s centre(No.13) was at it again to score an opportunist try wide out, 35-24 to Bracknell.
The game continued at a furious pace and from the back of a scrum James W. picked up to go over in the corner. Zach P. converted from the touchline to complete a 100% kicking record for the day to crown an outstanding performance. With one more play from kick-off the game finished 42-24 to Bracknell.
It was a great team performance in a highly competitive match especially as we only had 12 players. Special mention to the Basingstoke boys who stepped in to help us. Special mention also to George L. and Ollie B. who gamely swapped from scrum-half to flanker in each half.
Bracknell’s coaches awarded Basingstoke’s centre as their choice for Man Of The Match as he was outstanding throughout.
