BRACKNELL HURRICANES U14s OVERCOME MAIDENHEAD IN LOCAL DERBY 26-19

Sunday 26th January 2020 Kick-off 9:45 am

Maidenhead U14A hosted Bracknell Hurricanes at their Braywicke Park ground.
Maidenhead kicked off on their AGP pitch in front of a grandstand full of parents and supporters.
Within three minutes Maidenhead scored the 1st try after slow defence and poor tackling to take the lead 7-0.
This gave their players real impetus and for the next few minutes, they put Bracknell’s defence under real pressure close to the try line. The Bracknell boys defended resolutely and after a scrum inside their own 22-metre area, Bracknell’s fly-half, Geoffrey M. put in a long clearing kick over the halfway line. Right-wing Charlie G chased up and the kick and was rewarded with the ball bounced up into his hands for him to outpace the Maidenhead defence to run in Bracknell 1st try. Zach P added the conversion to tie the scores 7-7.
Maidenhead attacked again and with another scrum in the Hurricanes 22 metre area, scrum-half Ollie B got the quick ball out to the fly-half who put in another kick over the top of Maidenhead’s rush defence. The Maidenhead fullback got to the ball just ahead of Charlie G but miskicked the ball back towards his own line instead out of touch. Charlie G was on it in a flash and the bounce was in his favour again. The ball bounced up and after a juggle with the ball at speed he ran in to score under the posts. Zach P stepped up again to add the extras, 14-7 to Bracknell.
The Hurricanes were starting to control the game. At a ruck in the middle of the pitch Bracknell’s second row, Sam S broke away up the middle with Maidenhead’s defence trailing in his wake. Three or four handoffs later and Sam was over the line to score a brilliant solo effort, 19-7 to Bracknell conversion just missed.
Against the run of play, Bracknell let Maidenhead in for another try after several missed tackles by the Backs to finish the half 19-12 in Bracknell’s favour.
The second half started and with a few minutes, Sam S was at it again, this time picking up a loose ball, offloading to Geoffrey M who drew the defender and passed to wing Sam P to run around and score under the posts. Harrison B stepped up to coolly land his debut conversion between the uprights, 26-12 to Bracknell.
Maidenhead battled back and put pressure on the Bracknell's backline out wideout and the missed tackles allowing their strong run into the corner to score. Their fullback added the conversion. Game on....

The Hurricanes held on for a deserved win against a strong team, 26-19 to Bracknell.

The Bracknell coaches nominated scrum-half Ollie B as their Man of the Match for an inspirational and gutsy performance.
Other notable performances were by James W and Harry M for their superb tackling and support play and with a few boys trying some different positions it was a positive result for the team.
