Physical day at the office bough sweet rewards for the U14s Canes

Reeds were unbeaten at this point in the season so it was always going to be a tough day away at the office for the boys in green. Reeds won the toss and gave BRFC the kick-off. With near perfect conditions, we all looked forward to a competitive match.
After good early pressure Bracknell forced a turnover inside the Reeds 22, it was a bright start going through several phases of play which resulted in James W going over for an early score after 3 minutes for the first try of the game. Geoffrey M couldn't convert a hard kick to leaving the score 0 -5 to BRFC.
Reeds responded well with some flowing rugby and put BRFC under pressure, they looked like they might score but for a crucial tackle by Sam P on their dangerous number 12. It was obvious it was going to be a physical match.
The game continued with both teams giving everything until BRFC snatched a loose ball and Charlie made a break on 14 minutes taking his team deep into the Reeds half. The supporting players recycled the ball with great purpose releasing the backs to move the ball through the hands however due to some strong Reeds tackling were left 5 metres short of the line.
A minute later BRFC had a scrum, Sam S picked up and ran hard, he then popped a lovely offload to Sam P who went over for his first try of the day. Another difficult conversion was missed leaving the score 0-10.
After the restart, Reeds were awarded a scrum to Reeds and this resulted in a training ground move that worked perfectly down the blindside for the home team’s first try scored by #6. Conversion missed. Score 5-10 after 17 mins.
Reeds started to look confident however Bracknell responded with some good play and won a line-out. BRFC moved the ball quickly through outside-half Geoffrey Manners and the backs moved the ball quickly and it went out wide for Sam P to score his second try. Geoffrey suffering from a late tackle and being tended to by nurse Larksy, Harry M took over kicking duties and slotting the conversion over from in-front of the posts. SCORE 5-17.
BRFC could see Reeds were disappointed things weren't going to plan and started to show their frustration.
Rudy S now shifted to outside-half, Reeds came hard at Bracknell however we replied with some tough tackling of our own with James W leading the way in this department.

HALF TIME SCORE REEDS 5 – 17 BRACKNELL.

Reeds came out in the second half with all guns blazing and camped themselves in the Bracknell half with phase after phase however the BRFC resolute and aggressive defence held firm.
Bracknell cleared their lines with a kick but it was ruled that Bracklnell were offside. Reeds took a quick penalty and chipped the ball into the corner and after a gratuitous bounce the chasing runners went over for their second try after 7 mins. Conversion missed. SCORE 10-17.
Reeds players confidence was up and they hope this would be the tipping point in the match . The Bracknell boys bounced back and had learned how to deal with the Reed players strengths and was winning good quick ball themselves. Bracknell were still under pressure however Reeds never really looked like scoring and this was firmly down to every man in green giving everything in defence.
14 mins - It was a strong tackle again from James W that forced the ball to be dropped. Bracknell used their superior passing skills to break through and shift play upfield. More hard work got the ball out wide to Sam P who ran in from 40 yards to go in under the post for another try. Harry kicked conversion. SCORE 10-24.
On 20 minutes Reeds came close but try was disallowed due to a knock-on in the build up.
Bracknell defending their half of the pitch with Reeds going nowhere, Bracknell's strong defence forced a turnover and during a fantastic offload to get the ball out off a double tackle Rufus D fracture his collar bone and his offload put Sam P into space who used the platform given to him by his teammate to skilfully finish off another try with pace and power to over again under the posts. Harry kicked conversion. SCORE 10-31. (24 mins)
5 minutes later with Bracknell now in control of the game and Reeds struggling to accept defeat, BRFC stayed focussed and kept pushing for more. Their reward was another fine team try, a slick move being finished off by the man of the match Sam P who took every chance offered up to him. Harry kicked the conversion. FINAL SCORE 10-38.
In summary, an epic team performance full of hard tackling, working for each other, solid set piece, accurate passing and great finishing.
