BRFC U14s Squad pull a team performance together

On another perfect day for rugby at Horsham’s, Hammer pond Road ground, Bracknell U14’s squad were to play 3 x 25-minute matches to give everyone game time and mix the teams up.
Bracknell Hurricanes U14A team where First up and they soon found they were up against a very strong determined Horsham side. Within seven minutes Horsham was awarded a line out on their 10-metre line, which they won and they worked some space wideout for one of their powerful centres to make an outside break and score under the posts. Their fly-half converted, 7-0 to Horsham.
After another eight minutes of good play by both teams, Horsham broke the deadlock to find more space as the Bracknell’s defence was to narrow and Horsham scored a second try wideout. The conversion was missed, 12-0 to Horsham.
Bracknell battled back with fly-half Zach P scored a great individual try after seeing a gap and sidestepping several Horsham defenders to score under the posts. Zach added the conversion, 12-7 to Horsham. With only minutes to play from the kick-off, Bracknell piled on the pressure again and prop Charlie G. made a fine breakthrough the Horsham defence to score another try under the posts. Zach P. added the extras and the game finished 14-12 to Bracknell.
Well done to second row Harry W who stepped up for this Bracknell match from the Stormers. Well done to Zach P for being the Bracknell coaches Man of the Match

Next up was Bracknell Stormers U14B team against Horsham ‘B’. Once again, it was a close fought match. Horsham’s first try came from an interception 15 metres out, 5-0 to Horsham. The game continued at a fast pace with both sides creating chances before Horsham scored again after a scrum 15 metres out to score on the left the conversion was missed. The final score ended 10-0 to Horsham. Congratulations to George L. and Harry M. for being the Bracknell coaches Men of the Match for their tackling.

As we had travelled as an U14s squad session Head Coach Daimon Evans fielded, a mixed Hurricanes and Stormers team to play the third match against a mixed team from Horsham. This gave Bracknell the opportunity to try some players in different positions and give equal game time to all the players.
Within five minutes of the start, Bracknell centre Sam P. scored a superb try on the right-hand side having outpaced Horsham’s big fast centre who chased him down all the way from the halfway line, 5-0 to Bracknell.
Horsham bounced back shortly afterwards with a converted try under the posts, 7-5 to Horsham and it was game on.
Minutes later after good handling by the Bracknell backs centre Ben B used his strength and speed to scored which Zach P. converted, 12-7 to Bracknell. Bracknell won a scrum and the quicker ball ended up in Sam P’s hands and he ended up having another foot race with Horsham’s centre to outpace him again. Fly-half Geoffrey M. converted, 17-7 to Bracknell.
Although it was a tight game with both teams tackling well the Bracknell forward working hard to give the backs quick ball for them to set up another attack and from more good handling Sam P. ran in to score his hattrick and the game finishing 22-7 to Bracknell and a final aggregate score over the three games 36-22 to Bracknell.

Congratulations to Bracknell prop Nathan W for winning a great turnover followed by an amazingly brave piece of skill by scrumhalf Ollie B. to win a loose ball on the ground to set up the final try.

All three games were hard-fought contests and played in a good spirit.
The Horsham Captain nominated Sam P. as their choice for Man of The Match and Bracknell Captain, Sam Sershall nominated Horsham’s inside centre as the Horsham Man of the Match.
Bracknell’s Coaches were very pleased with the way all the boys played as a team and their commitment was excellent. The team chat and team spirit over lunch endorsed how well we are developing as a squad.
