BRFC U14s Hurricanes weathered a different storm as they faced WINDSOR IN LOCAL U14s DERBY!

SUNDAY OCTOBER 13TH K.O. 12 NOON PITCH 5, CALFRIDUS WAY

Windsor kicked off at 12.00 pm and for the next 7 minutes; they controlled the game with some driving runs by their massive pack of forwards. Bracknell held on and defended strongly; managing to stop several; forward drives close to the Bracknell try line.
The pressure eventually became too much and Windsor broke the deadlock with another forward drive close to the Bracknell try line to score. The Windsor fullback converted 7-0 to Windsor.
After more sustained pressure for the next 13 minutes Bracknell scrum, half Olli B made a break from the base of the scrum and drew Windsor’s fly-half to pass to the Bracknell backs who shifted the ball quickly to put right-wing Ben B into space for a run in from 40 metres and score under the posts. Fly-half Zach P. Converted, 7-7.
Bracknell began to pile on the pressure and take control having several good runs with the backs but with a very slippery ball due to the extreme conditions, the final pass was sticking to release our boys out wide.
Shortly before half time, Bracknell won a penalty under the Windsor posts and BRFC decided to run a set move and spine the ball wide into space. Unfortunately, this did not pan out and the backs had to cut back inside instead of getting the ball to the wing with a clear overlap for a run in, so the half ended at 7-7.
Bracknell made 4 changes at half time and continued to press the Windsor defence but after another massive forward drive, Windsor scored again wideout but didn’t convert the conversion, 12-7 to Windsor.
Bracknell had several more chances, which on a dry day they probably would have taken, but with wet/muddy ball, passes were sticking at the crucial moment.
After another good passing move down the line, the ball went astray but centre Rufus D picked up the loose ball on the halfway line and sprinted down the left-wing, outpacing Windsor’s defence to score under the posts. Zach P added the 2 points for Bracknell to take the lead for the first time, 14-12 to Bracknell.
Bracknell kept on top after that and continued to control the game. For the second week, running Bracknell won but this time it was a very even match and a mighty close Arm wrestle type of game.
Every one of Bracknell’s players played with massive commitment and there was not a weak link amongst them. It was another great team effort. However special mention must for Bracknell’s full back, Harry Mills who put in some bone crunching tackles on Windsor is massive forwards even though he is half their size. He proved how important good tackling technique and you can cut anyone down if you tackle low.
The Windsor coaches nominated Bracknell centre Rufus D. as their Man of The Match.
Bracknell’s coaches nominated Windsor’s fly half as their Man of The Match.
