A double victory for BRFC U14s

So last September we went to Farnham and got properly taken apart by two well organised Farnham U13 teams, so this fixture was a great opportunity to see how we had improved since then.
The pitch was great, the sun was shining, and Gylo the ref was keen and ready to go.
Kick off, and Farnham fumbled Will's drop kick, Scott pounced and scored in the corner for Louis W to convert 7-0.
Straight from their restart, Will broke through the line and fed a perfect pass to Harrison to score under the post, and suddenly it was 14-0! Given that we are normally asleep at the start of every match and like to give the opposition a sizable headstart, BRFC was in uncharted territory and Farnham had no idea what had hit them!
We then had a period of proper competitive rugby in the middle of the pitch, before the forwards got a move going down the right side, with Louis B eventually touching down. However even golden boot Louis W couldn't quite squeeze the conversion between the posts from that far out, but it was still 19-0.
We then had to defend for a long spell, and the boys got through some great tackles to defend our line. However, eventually the Farnham flyhalf played a great crossfield kick from right to left and the bounce was kind for their winger to score. They converted to give 19-7 at half time.
The second half started with us having to defend again, and we found ourselves deep in our own 22. We won a scrum and then a rare misunderstanding between Louis W and Will at 9 & 10 led to a stray pass that Farnham pounced on and then converted to give 19-14, pressure on!
We began to roll some subs which added fresh legs, and suddenly we were moving in the right direction again. Farnham kicked deep into our half and Oski the full back collected the ball, danced past several of their players and played the perfect weighted pass for Scott to score down the left wing, no conversion so it was 24-14.
A long period of scrappy play in the middle of the park ended when Thomas suddenly broking through to score under the posts, 31-14.
Farnham kept attacking and we defended resolutely. From deep in our 22 we put together an awesome flowing move through the hands of all the backs, and another gold plated pass from Oski again released Scott down the left wing to score. Louis W hit the post with the conversion attempt, to give 36-14.
The final play of the match ended with a Farnham try down their right wing which they couldn't convert, so the match ended 36-19. Fantastic teamwork, great impact from the subs and some wonderful running rugby.
Onto the development squad...........
Last year, we didn't even have enough players to make up a full second team at 13 a side, and I remember having to borrow some Farnham subs to make a Baa Baas side. This year, we had some huge talent ready to play, and Woody took the whistle for the second game. Jarus kept the scores as follows:
First try to Farnham, 0-5 with no conversion.
Joe A-T then levelled, and we converted to lead 7-5.
Two more Farnham tries without conversions got them to 7-15 in the lead, before Lewis C used those long legs to stride through and score to give 12-15 at half time, a real nail biter!
Farnham scored first to extend their lead to 12-20.
We then struck back firstly through a Harry try, and then finally a Henry try to win 22-20!
Sneaked home because of our successful conversion.
Great work by both teams, and we passed the test of our strength in depth with flying colours.
