Good start to the League campaign

A real mixed bag today. Some truly excellent play mixed in with some indifferent decision making, and a smattering of small errors amongst moments of high skill.

Bottom line though is that 4 tries were scored in each half, with 8 different try scorers, half from the backs and half from the forwards. One can assume from that, that it was a decent all round game, which for the most part, it was. However, we were also left with the feeling that some bits of it could have been better, as the second half in particular, when the Tadley boys rallied and stormed back into the game, it became very scrappy where before it had been effective and efficient.

Still, it was a league game, and whilst it is not the be-all and end-all, winning the league games is always nice.

It should also be noted that parts of the pitch were atrociously muddy, so some of the handling and running – from both teams – should be applauded. The Bracknell scrum was excellent throughout, the Bracknell line-out may well have been also, had there been any, and without question the tries were all gems, in their different ways.

For the record, the scoring was from Toby, Josh J, Ryan and Zach, followed by Lewis, Oakley, Kyle and Fraser in the second half. Josh J added three two-pointers.

Pick of the tries; for the handling and interplay from deep inside the Bracknell 22 that led to Oakley’s try in the second half, Zach’s try for the speed of moving the ball from breakdown to the wing and Kyle for his pace and strength to run it in from some way out.

So a good start to the league season, and certainly a performance (if not necessarily a score) which the boys would all hope to improve upon.
