Match report by Martin Radford

The 4's, well they took the field of play coughing and spluttering with the usual blend of age and inexperience, the pre-requisite new faces and introductions, players out of position and the defibrillator ready and fully charged. With the brief presence of the 1st XV physios, some of the lads benefitted from some strapping, but the regret in their eyes when they tried to pull it off was palpable and very real, grown men do cry!

This was a TVIL league game, which is all about ensuring players play rugby in the spirit of the game, and this was 100% achieved. Kingsclere were a good bunch, and also a blend of age and inexperience, so (I know it's a cliche) rugby was the winner. The 4's forwards worked hard all day, and the Kingsclere back line offered an open door policy, it was a pity that some of the old legs on show couldn't make the most of these opportunities, oh to be 10 years younger!

If the game was decided on try scoring, then the 4's would have come out 3-1 winners. Bracknell's tries were created through some slick hands and dogged determination, Kingsclere's a moment of individual brilliance from the young full back. Three close range penalties and conversion, completed the scoring for Kingsclere, whilst three conversion attempts missed from wide out, meant Bracknell 4's fell short.

The Bracknell lads all put a shift in and enjoyed the day, and hopefully Alan 'potty mouth' O'Brian has learnt that using colourful language in earshot of the referee will not be tolerated. Playing up the hill in the 2nd half, with old legs, is hard enough, but to do it with 14 just made it a little harder!

So a good day all round, the mighty 3's squad and us oldies move on to the next big day at BRFC. Good effort boys!!!!!

GO BRFC!
