Reading III 31 - Bracknell III 12

Real Hummers8 Dec 2014 - 13:59

Bracknell show true character against an experienced Reading side. A match report by PJ.

Once again a much changed side in the threes saw them travel to Reading RFC for this BBO 3 match.

The Bracknell side due to unavailability and injuries had a young team with many playing in new positions for the first time. It was evident that from the start it was going to be hard for the 3s and within minutes Reading had scored on the wing , conversion missed 5-0. Again with a similar passage of play Reading attacked and although some great tackling from Bracknell, Reading manufactured an overlap to a score in the corner. The conversion was missed but in first 10 minutes it was 10-0 to Reading.

Credit to the young threes they were not overawed by the Reading outfit and the attack patterns started to change. Bracknell kept to their instruction from their coaches with skipper for the day, Richard Brember, encouraging his troops and managing play, Bracknell pressed and rocked Reading back. Most of the play was now in Readings half with the forwards driving hard at the opposition. Time and time again the threes hit hard. With some 25 minutes gone that they were rewarded with a fine drive resulting in their new No 8, Jamie Fletcher knocking over the defence in skittle alley fashion and crashing over the white line for the try. Pat Haddad narrowly missing the kick. 10-5.

The play was now evenly matched and saw some fine cover tackling from Tom Youngs on the wing , and for a short while at centre. The confidence was growing amongst the Bracknell ranks and duly the game again turned in their favour, Reading weathering a storm and half time 10-5.

The first ten minutes of the second half mirrored the start of the first half; Reading applying all the pressure to see them go 24-5 up and seemingly going to run away with a second half onslaught. But this Bracknell teams attitude would not have that and having the never say die spirit gave all to pinning back Reading in their own half.

Once again PJ had to juggle the team as Nigel Wright at flanker sustained an injury and was out for the rest of the game. Coach Alec Wright coming on to assist the pack and making impact with some crashing drives and still the belief continued. Skipper Richard Brember used and managed the ball well, the centre pairing of Steven Reid and Emanuel Hines tested the opposition relentlessly. When Reading managed to get ball they were cut down by terrific tackling from, Lewis Edwards, Jake Parker and Tom Youngs.

Reading were really jolted by the young guns and once more the tides of attack were in Bracknell`s favour. Keeping it in the pack Bracknell hammered at the Reading defence , Ajay Pipins , Jamie Fletcher and 'old timers' Dan Ledger and David Rosi all spearheading the attack. It wasn’t long before the tired Reading outfit succumbed to the attacks and Alec Wright crashed through for the try . A massive pack effort. Pat Haddad kicking 24-12.

The pattern continued with Bracknell attacks. It was unfortunate that a spilt ball saw a cross field kick bounce into the arms of the Reading winger who to his credit evaded an excellent tackle effort and scored, the kick converted.

The relief was for Reading as the whistle blew who ran out 31-12 winners. Credit to them also for respect shown for the young Bracknell team. The score line was flattering for Reading as the Bracknell side gave their all , played a very positive game and were worthy of getting more out of the match.

The team must take positives out of this match , they were a young inexperienced side, playing out of position and with two guys only playing for first time, against a big experienced team , that train and play together week in week out.

All should take credit for sterling performances - A massive thanks to Richard Brember and David Rosi for taking roles of skipper and pack leader on the day, great job guys!!!

Well done keep it going PJ.
