Maidenhead III 29 - 38 Bracknell III

Going into first game in the league, against a side that had beaten us by virtually last play of game previous season, the 'Mighty Threes' were well up to make amends and set out their stall for their 2013 league campaign.

With this year many places up for grabs and competition for selection, a mobile and youthful side was picked to travel to Braywick Park.

From the off Bracknell showed that the danger for Maidenhead was going to be containing the young guns and several penetrating runs were made into Maids half. It was not long before Dean Ansell and Josh Webb had scored tries, with Ben Radford slotting home one of attempts. At 0-12 early on the writing was on the wall for Maidenhead and they then opted to keep the ball very close to their much heavier and larger pack.

The scrum was always a tough area for the young and light weight pack of Bracknell and Maids made good use of their lineout’s to secure ball and drive hard at the Bracknell defence, scoring to make the game closer than what it should have been. The back row of Axton, Thomas, and Man of Match Josh Webb, together with hooker and skipper Jon Bullett worked relentlessly to get to the breakdown and enable quick ball for the Bracknell backs who scored another 3 tries. Had they chosen better options with ball the Bracknell backs could have score at least another three tries.

All in all lots of positives to take and plenty of room for improvement, but a good start to the season with some good rugby, and a showing that the Mighty Threes could be one of the sides to watch for in the league.
