Mighty Threes Nuke Harwell

Matthew Randall20 Nov 2010 - 21:43

Emotional day for the Mighty Threes. Match report by Rob Munro

With the sad passing of team mate Tom Agar last weekend, Saturday’s visit from Harwell took on an extra importance, with the main aim to give him a performance of which he would have been proud. The day started with a wonderfully supported minutes silence for Tom and the large crowd that had gathered at Lilly Hill expected rugby to fit the occasion. They were not to be disappointed.

The 3s Capt, only gave the simplest of team talks and Harwell kicked off. Straight from the kick off, the Mighty Threes forwards started to exert their pressure on the game and their speed between breakdowns was phenomenal. This gave the platform for the backs to play with and they quickly hit their stride running moves with quick hands and off loads. The crowd did not have to wait long for the first score with Johann crashing through a couple of players to score, the start of a great day’s work for the player.

Another try quickly followed for Rosi, who is obviously not getting the backhanders anymore, and the team are benefitting from him being on the pitch for 80 minutes at a game . A third try then followed with the Capt. coming from a position so deep he needed a submarine, taking a quick blindside pass from the back of maul to bullock over from ten yards.

If that was sublime, what happened next bordered on the ridiculous. Harwell kicked off, Darby promptly caught the ball, a feat for him in itself. The forwards rucked over and fast ball was given to the backs. The ball then went through probably 12 sets of hands, inside, outside and fast and as Woods finally swept in for the kind of score the all blacks would have been proud of, the crowd were delirious. It seems Coach Baz’s crazy ways of coaching were paying off with the kind of rugby that would grace any level.

With the bonus point already in the bag at half time, it was clear the Mighty Threes were on the jazz and no one was going to disrupt that. In the second half Harwell to their credit battled and pressured the Bracknell line several time although Bracknell inability to clear the ball down field did not do anything to relieve the pressure and they promptly scored. Bracknell had not given up scoring though and quickly went down the other end going close on numerous occasions, but finally racking up a further three tries.

Final Score 41 -12.

With great performances from Mike Round and Gary Dixon to name but a few. Praise to Harwell should be given, they never stopped battling, but this was a day, when the Mighty Thees were never going to be stopped, and a great ending to a week when rugby became so far less important. The players would like to thank all the crowd for their support on what was an emotional day for all.

The Threes are starting to roll again and up to 2nd place in the league now. Can they go higher?
