Mighty Threes march on despite more shocking internet betting intrigue!!

Matthew Randall11 Oct 2010 - 15:38

Match report by Dan Ledger

The Mighty Threes took to the pitch for their first home game of the season and the decent crowd that had gathered were not to be disappointed at being made to wait until the 2nd weekend in October to be able to see the 3s turn out on home turf.

There were a few changes to the starting line up from previous weeks with Pete Hill providing some additional power and bulk in the 2nd row and young Chris Griffiths adding some pace to the back row. In the backs veteran short bloke Lee Woods slotted in at fly half with young Adam Francis moving from wing to full back. The Threes had be buoyed during the week by the return of coach ‘Baz’ who had put the guys through their paces on Thursday and the team were raring to go to make up for a narrow loss at the visitors (Grove) ground at the end of last season.

Playing down the infamous beach 2 slope in the first half Bracknell were made to work hard by Grove but nevertheless opened up a lead early on. Bracknell continued to try and establish their pattern of play on the game and tackled some of Grove’s big ball carriers well to prevent the visitors from getting any sniff of a score.

As the half progressed young Chris Griffiths showed his in depth knowledge of the game by rationally explaining the rules to the referee who was obviously pleased with this advice, so much so that during an obligatory moment of ‘handbags’ he allowed Chris a ten minute break to recharge the batteries and rest his voice!! Bracknell crossed the line twice more in the first half building up a solid lead at half time.

The home side were determined not to let the game slip at half time and from the kick off 2nd Row Pete Hill drove deep into the Grove defence with quick ball allowing the backs to strike immediately with a bonus point try taken by wing Christian. Sharpness in attack continued to improve during the 2nd half with the handling game of both the forwards and backs starting to return to some of the high levels we’ve come to expect from the team.

Despite some lapses in concentration leading to a loss of shape in attack, Bracknell continued to deny the visitors any scoring opportunities and the lead continued to grow. This would have been at an even greater rate had No 8 Dave Rosi not taken part in a horrendous piece of hat trick jug avoidance spilling the ball over the try line not once but twice!! Rumours have been rife since then of a new internet betting scandal, at this point no further comments are being made but Mr Rosi is understood to currently be receiving free curries for life at an ‘unnamed’ curry house!!

The game finished 52-0 to the mighty threes and a job well done, captain and birthday boy Munro gave special mentions to winger Christian for grabbing a 4 try haul and inside centre Dan Ryding. Other try scorers included Pete Hill, Dave Rosi, Adam Francis and John Roberts. Up for ridicule in the regular tw*t of the match award it remained honours even for Chris Griffiths’ yellow card and the jug avoidance of Dave Rosi, however, should we find out who marked out the lines on the pitch then this award may be reconsidered.
