Bracknell land a mighty trawl as Fisherman flounder

The fixture gods had been kind to Bracknell and had granted a second league fixture at home in a row. This time Bracknell entertained Brixham (aka The Fisherman) at Lily Hill, for the first ever league meeting of the two sides.

As the autumn leaves and light rain drifted across Lily Hill the smallish crowd readied themselves for kick-off. They did not have to wait long for Bracknell to register some points. Early Bracknell pressure was rewarded after five minutes by a Liam Prescott penalty.

There then followed a scappy period where Bracknell dominated territory, the Fisherman choosing to attempt to run the ball out of their half rather than kicking clear. This led to a Bracknell penalty which was kicked by Liam Prescott. 6-0 Bracknell.

Thirty minutes into the game saw a line break by Kenny Barry, the ball was off loaded to Ben Nowak, who in turn popped the ball to George Milligan, who crashed over for the first Bracknell try of the game. Liam Prescott converted.

The referee appeared to have problems with the way Bracknell were setting the scrum and awarded a number of free kicks against them yet despite this Bracknell were still enjoying territorial advantage over The Fisherman.

Just before half time a stolen line out lead to the ball going through a few Bracknell hands until the ball found its way to the ever present George Milligan to cross the white wash for Bracknells second try, converted by Liam Prescott. 20 nil to Bracknell at half time.

Some smart hands along the line from a penalty saw a long floated pass delivered by Joe Clapson to Ian Burch to allow him to score in the corner, the second half’s first try.

The writing looked to be on the wall for Brixham although they continued to defend with great vigour, however defend as they might it did not stop Bracknell scoring their fourth try by Matt Brambley and securing a bonus point.

With an hour gone coach Greenslade-Jones chose to introduce Stuart Silvester for his first league action of the season, it was terrific to see him back. Also coming back onto the pitch, after being a blood replacement earlier in the game, was Josh Webb. It was great to see a player that has come through the clubs academy structure making his first team debut !!

Some Bar-Bar style rugby saw Bracknell score a try through Matt Brambley. The Fishermans defence was now all at sea and further tries from George Milligan and Ian Burch saw Bracknells lead extended further.

One final push from Brixham saw Chris Brember shown a yellow card but this appeared to inspire Bracknell and with the final play the game George Milligan scored under the posts which was duly converted by Liam Prescott.

A very pleasing day for Bracknell.
