We let ourselves down - chin up and work hard !

Bracknell 29 Haywards Heath 7

by Tony Kilos

Bracknell exerted pressure on Heath right from the start and should have scored in the first few minutes, after good attacking play the ball was to passed too far in front of Mckenzie when he was in a good scoring position on the wing. As advantage was being played the ball was brought back to the infringement, the penalty going slightly wide of the post. At this point Bracknell's attack was looking very potent, and they finally scored after a reverse pass let in Mckenzie to score, Manupenu converting. Bracknell's attacking play looked like producing scores with each move but the next the score did not come until the half hour mark with a penalty from Manupenu. Five minutes later Luke Carter capped a fine first half display scoring under the posts after a series of mauls following a line out, the score converted. Right on half time Mackay scored a deserved try out wide after a switch pass from Manupenu released the ball down the backs line. Half time 22-0

A feature of the game had been the number of the penalties given away by both sides, which was to continue in the second half. Your reporter moved to the other end of the pitch in expectation of many more Bracknell scores, but spent most of the half watching Heath attacking the try line in the front of the club house with the sun in his eyes. With about five minutes remaining Heath finally scored, the try was converted. This galvanised Bracknell back into action, as they secured the 4 try bonus point, Mckenzie scoring his second try of the match after a good run by Manupenu, who converted the try. The game can be summed up by the disappointment of the home side fans in victory knowing the team had not performed to their full potential.

Additional from Guy:-

Irrespective of what is said, a win is a win and the points (ALL 5) are in the bag....well done and I am sure that each and every player knows where he went wrong. Work hard and work together, and remember that the season is long. It is not the mistakes we make but the lessons learned from them. Good Luck for Saturday

Congrats to Man of the Match Leo Bailey - keep up the good work!
