Bracknell (20) 41 Brixham (9) 9

Having sat out last weekend’s round of SW Premier fixtures, Bracknell were back in action against Brixham. Previous games between these two sides normally goes with a win to the home side, the only time this pattern has been broken was in the 2013/14 season when Bracknell won at Astley Park, home of Brixham. At Lily Hill, in the corresponding fixture last season this pattern was in danger of being broken, Bracknell sneaking home by a margin of only four points. This season interestingly enough both sides have lost to the same sides, Barnstaple and WSM. Brixham’s only win of the season came against Devon rivals Oakhampton on the opening day of the season, whereas Bracknell were still looking for their first win of the season from their two games leaving Bracknell rooted to the foot of the table. A win was important for both sides.

Brixham kicked off playing towards the clubhouse. It would take only 4 minutes before Brixham opened the scoring, fly half Mitch Pinkus kicking a penalty. Bracknell responded with their next attack Eiliott Bellman crashing over the Brixham try line from close quarters, to give Bracknell the lead - a lead they would not relinquish.

Bracknell continued to press and were rewarded when Simon Bayliss touched down out wide.

A further Mitch Pinkus penalty cut Bracknell's lead before with the sides having exchanged penalties, Bracknell scored their third try of the afternoon just before the half time break. Neat interplay allowed Simon Bayliss to come off his wing to create an overlap for Bart van Herwijnen dot down for his first try in in Bracknell colours. Vic Hardwicke converting.

Half time: Bracknell 20 Brixham 9

Bracknell started the second half as they had finished the first. The forwards drove a maul off an attacking line over the Brixham try line to secure Bracknell's bonus point try. Conversion from Vic Hardwicke was good.

Further Bracknell pressure forced Brixham to ground the ball over their try line. From the five meter scrum the Bracknell pack drove the
Brixham pack back, Kieran Forbes applying the 'coup de gras' under the Brixham posts. Conversion from Vic Hardwicke was good.

The final score of the game came with 20 minutes gone of the second half. Some good hands from Bracknell put George Owen into space for him to cross the Brixham white wash. Vic Hardwicke with the conversion added the extra’s.

Full time: Bracknell 41 Brixham 9 (Points: Bracknell 5 Brixham 0)

The result sees Bracknell lift off the bottom of the table into 11th spot. Well done to both the Stags and 3XV who both recorded wins yesterday.

Bracknell’s Chairman of Rugby Martin Radford commented after the match “I was pleased when I found out that we would have all three sides all playing at home. But I am delighted that we recorded three very good wins, it reflects the hard work that everyone has put in.

Next week the 1XV face their longest trip of the season as they travel the 215 miles to Cornwall to face Camborne. Before that at the clubhouse it’s the Family Bingo Night on Friday all starting 6.30pm and the clubhouse opens again Saturday morning for the England vs Argentina RWC game (KO 9am) which will be shown on the clubhouse screens – come along and join us. The 1XV are back in action at Lily Hill Saturday 12th October when Drybrook are the visitors.
