Ivybridge 28 Bracknell 14

Bracknell made the trip to Devon for this re-arranged bottom of the table clash, both teams knowing that a win would go a long way to making safe South West Premier rugby next season. Bracknell forced to make one change to the starting line Chris Laidler switching to full back to replace Gabe Hill whose badly busied leg had not improved enough to make the trip.

Bracknell in their changed black strip, kicked off playing into the stiff Devon wind, enjoyed the better of the opening encounters. This was brought to a swift end after 10 minutes when scrum half Ben Watts brushed off the Bracknell tackles score under the Bracknell posts. Mitch Pinkus adding the extras.

Bracknell response was immediate, off a line out Michael Clarke was at the back of a driving maul to score. Conversion by Vic Hardwick equalised the scores.

As quickly as Bracknell had got the scores level they were to find themselves behind again. With the next Ivybridge attack centre Lewis Paterson broke through the Bracknell defensive line to dot down. Mitch Pinkus converted.

Halfway through the half Ivybridge further increased their lead. A turn over at a Bracknell scrum allowed number 8 Robin Luscombe to virtually stroll unopposed to the Bracknell try line. Conversion from Mitch Pinkus.

With 5 minutes remaining of the half, the intense Ivybridge pressure on the Bracknell line was rewarded with the bonus point try from winger Billy Pinkus. Mitch Pinkus converting.

Half time: Ivybridge 28 Bracknell 7

It was now Bracknell’s turn to attack with the stiffening wind but could not turn any territorial advantage into score board points. With 10 minutes of the game remaining Michael Clarke scored from another maul, converted by Chris Laidler but Bracknell were unable to find another score that would have meant a vital losing bonus point.

Full time: Ivybridge 28 Bracknell 14 (Points: Ivybridge 5 Bracknell 0)

The result leaves Bracknell one place and 4 points above the relegation spots on 54 points. With three games to go it will be a nervy close to the season. It does not get easier for Bracknell as next Saturday they travel to third place and play-off chasing Maidenhead for the final Berkshire derby of the season (KO 3pm).
