Bracknell 44 Exmouth 21

On a dry sunny autumn afternoon, which provided excellent rugby playing conditions, Bracknell played host to Exmouth RFC (aka "the Cockles"). Bracknell playing away from the clubhouse in the first half.

It would be Bracknell that would open the scoring. With just one minute gone, a break through the Exmouth defence involving a number of Bracknell players, winger Jiute Tupua was able to finish the move in the corner. 5-0.

Capitalising on further Bracknell pressure a move in the backs allowed Gabe Hills to break and put winger Ian Burch into space to dot down. 10-0 with 5 minutes gone.

Three minutes later some deft hands set centre Ben Saunderson crashing through the Exmouth’s defensive line for Bracknell’s third try of the afternoon. The conversion this time by Vic Hardwicke was good. 17-0.

Bracknell secured their bonus point with a move that started in the Bracknell half, Gabe Hills breaking and the ball eventually finding its way to second row Leo Bailey out wide for him to cross the Exmouth try line for Bracknell’s bonus point, with just over ten minutes gone.

Bracknell extended their lead with a Vic Hardwicke penalty after 22 minutes. 25-0.

Shock shelled Exmouth managed to re-group and some extended pressure in the Bracknell half saw Bracknell reduced in numbers as Peceli Nacamavuto was shown a yellow card.

With ten minutes of the first half remaining some neat interplay between backs and forwards saw an off load by prop Harry Challenor to set Juite Tupua through under the Exmouth posts. Conversion by Vic Hardwicke.

Half time: Bracknell 32 Exmouth 0.

Bracknell started the second half now playing towards the clubhouse. It would be Exmouth that would open the second half scoring with a converted try 5 minutes into the second half.

Bracknell stealing an Exmouth line out, hoisted a Garryowen kick. Juite Tupua collected the loose ball to score his hat trick try under the Exmouth posts. Conversion was kicked by Chris Laidler on for Vic Hardwicke. 39-7.

Bracknell’s final try of the afternoon came after some sustained pressure in the Exmouth 22, Michael Clarke finding space and showing the Exmouth cover defence the speed he has become famous for on the sevens circuit. Conversion was missed. 44-7.

Credit to the Exmouth players they never gave up and they were rewarded with two late converted trys, meaning that Exmouth had outscored Bracknell in the second half.

Full time: Bracknell 44 Exmouth 21. (Points Bracknell 5 Exmouth 0)

The win lifts Bracknell to tenth in the league. Elsewhere in the league Dings Crusaders and Newton Abbot continue to be the form teams.

Well done to the Stags and 4XV who both recorded wins and commiserations to the 3XV who lost on the road at Bicester.
