Bracknell 31 Cleve 22

Head of Rugby Daniel ap Dafydd made a number of changes to the side that lost by five points at Camborne the week before. Tom Scott, the hard working back row Simon Haddad returned while winger Juite Tupua was making his first XV debut.

Bracknell started the first half playing away from the clubhouse. It was Cleve that opened the days scoring, a penalty from Nathan Huntley giving them a 3-0 lead. Bracknell were reduced in numbers a minute later as Michael Clarke was shown a yellow card, by referee Zerren Bell, for a deliberate knock on, after Bracknell had turned over the ball.

Although reduced in numbers Bracknell elected to take a scrum from a kickable penalty, the decision paid off as from the scrum Chris Hala'ufia drove over in the Cleve corner. Conversion was missed, 8-3 with a quarter of an hour gone.

Back to full numbers a Chris Laidler penalty extended the Bracknell lead.

Just before the half time break, Cleve re-took the lead from a scrum on the Bracknell 5 meter line. Cleve’s number 8 Mike Uren dotting down and fly half, Nathan Huntley converting.

There was still enough time in the half for Bracknell to drive into the Cleve half from the restart and for Chris Laidler to drop a goal and give Bracknell the half time lead.

Half time: Bracknell 11 Cleve 10.

Bracknell now playing towards the clubhouse, conceded an early converted try out wide, after Cleve had worked a man overlap. 5 minutes later the Cleve lead was reduced with a Chris Laidler penalty.

A little over 11 minutes into the second half, after claiming a wayward high kick, centre Greg Welling was able to brush off a number of Bracknell tackles to score Cleves third try of the day. This time the conversion was missed. 17-22.

Two further penalty attempts would be missed before a deft off load from Ben Sanderson to winger Juite Tupua, allowed him to sidestep into space and finish well under the Cleve posts. Conversion from Chris Laider was good and Bracknell had retaken the lead. 24-22.

With 10 minutes remaining Cleve scrum half Alex Kilbane received a straight red for an off the ball incident.

With Cleve pressing on the Bracknell half way line, a finger tip interception by Juite Tupua enabled him to canter in under the Cleve post - to the delight of the Bracknell supporters. Try converted by Chris Laider.

The drama was not over as late penalty was missed by Cleve – which would have gained them a losing bonus point.

Full time: Bracknell 31 Cleve 22. (Points: Bracknell 4 Cleve 0)

Congrats go to Eunice who after the game received a bouquet of flowers from the 1XV on the occasion of her 80th birthday.

Well done to both the Stags and the 3XV who both recorded wins against Berkshire rivals, Newbury and Thatham.

Bracknell have a week off next week and are next in action away at Dings on 21st October before they face Exmouth at home on 28th October. Before then - this Friday you can enjoy live music at the clubhouse from Charlie Luffrum, so please come down for what should be a great evening.
