Camborne 5 - Bracknell 0. Match report by Peter Mably

Camborne kicked off down the slope with the wind behind them and almost inevitably kicked the ball dead, drawing a groan from the home support who were huddled under one end of their impressive stand.

On 3 occasions in the first 15 minutes Camborne contrive to do the same thing and despite the wind, play in centred around the half way line.

On the 22 minute mark, a quick tap and go from a penalty saw Camborne close in on the Bracknell line , after a couple of rucks in front of the Bracknell the posts the ball was sent wide for right wing Ben Tylor-Guy to score in the Bracknell corner. Conversion missed. 5-0.

Time and time again Bracknell gave away needless penalties around halfway to gift Camborne useful territory.

Camborne wasted an opportunity to increase their lead, electing for a scrum a few yards out rather than taking three points. Fortunately for Camborne, Bracknell fail to clear their lines after winning back possession and Camborne pressed the Bracknell line before an error of their own allowed Bracknell to clear their lines.

There was still time in the half for Bracknell to give away two more penalties, the last of which rattled off the post to go harmlessly wide.

If you had offered Bracknell a half time score of 5- 0 at kick off they would have grabbed it with both hands - Bracknell had got their wish!

Half Time: Camborne 5 - Bracknell 0

Bracknell enjoyed the early second half possession and territory. It took Camborne a full 10 minutes to get into Bracknell’s half only to be penalised for holding on.

With over 10 minutes of the second half gone, Bracknell had their first shot at goal but the ball was hooked wide despite the stiff wind at their backs.

Camborne now having their fair share of the ball were unable to make any ground against the wind & slope and never seriously threatened the Bracknell 22 the entire second half.

After several phases Bracknell forced a penalty but hooked it left from a very kickable position. A few minutes later they missed a further attempt to the right of the posts.

With 10 minutes remaining, Bracknell declined a shot at goal for a 'nailed on' 3 points from right in front of the posts instead electing for a scrum but failed to make any ground from the ensuing scrum.

In a stop start, injury ridden and error strewn game Bracknell's attacking threat was easily countered by Camborne’s committed defence as the scoreless second half reached a rain drenched conclusion.
