Following last weeks postponement of this game, Bracknell had to take the unprecedented step of moving the re-arranged fixture away from Lily Hill Park in order to guarantee the game. It was therefore that the game was played at Maidenhead RFC’s Braywick Road ground on their 4G Artificial Pitch.

Bracknell won the toss and elected to play into the wind. With just five minutes gone on the clock Colchester opened the scoring with a try from centre Calum Irvine. The conversion going wide in the strong wind.

With Bracknell now finally exerting some pressure on the Colchester line, Colchester Oliver Pickett was sent to the sin bin for not rolling away. From the resultant penalty Bracknell elected for a scrum but were unable to capitalise from the numerical advantage.

Down to 14 men, it was Colchester that extended their lead; following a poor clearance kick by Bracknell, some neat interplay in the Colchester backs, centre Damien Brambley crossed the Bracknell try line. Conversion kicked by James Crozier. 0-12 with 29 minutes gone.

A quick change of shoes by the referee did not stop Colchester from further scores. Winning a scrum against the head and a good break by Colchester number 8 Charlie Marsden, Colchester racked up a third try with 37 minutes on the clock. Conversion kicked by James Crozier. 0-19.

Into first half injury time, Colchester secured their bonus point try through winger Owen Herbert following a break down the Bracknell flank. 0-24 at half time. Bracknell’s poor defending and tackling leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Seven minutes into the second half Colchester continued where they left off in the first half with a try from Owen Herbert which was converted by James Crozier. Four minutes later another unconverted Damien Brambley try took the score to 36-0.

With the raining now falling adding to the misery of the Bracknell supporters, Bracknell opened their scoring. Hooker Stuart Silvester scoring off a catch and drive from a line out. Conversion went wide.

Almost immediately the deficit was further reduced with a try from Academy player Grant Coates making his 1XV debut. Conversion was missed. 36-10.

With nearly 20 minutes of the second half gone, a smart off the top line out from Bracknell allowed centre Danz Faamatuainu to break the Colchester defensive line, a deft off load provided a run in for Joe Pickett to score Bracknell's third try. Conversion kicked by Lewis Dennett .

Any dreams of an unlikely Bracknell comeback were extinguished by a try from Colchester centre Damien Brambley, as his scored his hat trick try.

Bracknell were awarded a bonus point fourth try for their second half efforts. Second row Lachlan Valentine popping a pass out of a tackle for full back Ben Yates to score. Conversion was drop goaled by Lewis Dennett.

There was still enough time for Colchester centre Damien Brambley to weave his way through the Bracknell defensive line and score the final try of the game.

Bracknell managed to savage a bonus point from the game, played on surface that suited Colchester's style of play more than Bracknell's, but the happier coach will be Colchester’s Anthony O'Riordan. Next Saturday 13th February Bracknell are away at the current league leaders London Irish Wild Geese (KO 2.30pm)
