The extremely wet and windy conditions at Lily Hill meant that the early period of the game was series of knock ons and penalties, in the first every league meeting between the two sides. Though it was Eton Manor who exerted the early pressure but were unable to make that pressure tell missing a number of penalty kicks at goal.
It was finally Bracknell that opened the scoring with a penalty kick from Liam Hemming with 20 minutes gone. Three nil to Bracknell, and this was the score at half time.
Into the second half and Bracknell extended their lead with a Leo Bailey try from a catch and drive from a line in the Eton Manor 22. The conversion going wide.
The teams exchanged penalty kicks, meaning Bracknell’s lead stayed at five points which looked like this was going to be Bracknell’s margin of victory.
That was until the final moments of the game when Bracknell secured their second try and produced some rugby magic to light up a dismal day. With Eton Manor having to keep the ball alive, George Milligan locked onto a loose ball and threw a long pass to No 8 Lachlan Valentine. A great one handed take by him allowed him to pop an inside pass to Ian Birch who sealed the Bracknell win with a try under the posts in front of the clubhouse. Conversion was kicked by Liam Hemming.
Final score Bracknell 18 Eton Manor 3 (Points: Bracknell 4 Eton Manor 0).
Man of the match award went to Kenny Barry for some tireless hard work in the wet conditions. Well done to him and the team!!
The win takes Bracknell up to tenth in the league. Next Saturday is an away trip to Wimbledon.
