Disappointment at Tonbridge Juddians by travelling reporter Rod Mackay

The last time Bracknell played TJs was in the 2011/2012 season. In both games at home and away TJ had the victory so it was with confidence from the win against Hertford that Bracknell travelled to TJ to cause another shock in this league this season.

With a nice sunny warm day for rugby and a bit of a wind the first 15 mins of the game seemed to be the testing period with Bracknell having the bulk of the possession. On 20 min TJ were awarded a penalty but it fell short. The next 10 mins were again spent by both side trying to gain domination however with Bracknell containing TJ.

On 25min a break by TJ down the wing ended with a try and the 2 points conversation. TJ were now 7 in front.

From the kick off TJ failed to gather the ball and Bracknell were quick to bounce. The ball went to Joe Price who scored and the conversation completed by Lewis Dennett.

Score now 7-7. With confidence growing on the side line from the Bracknell supporters, little did we know that this was to Bracknell’s last score. On 36 mins one of the rare penetrating attached by TJ produced another score with a conversation to put TJ in the lead at 14-7. Bracknell were awarded a penalty just before halftime however the kick went wide of the right post. Half time 14-7

Expectations were high for the 2nd half and if Bracknell could achieve what they did in the second half against Hertford in the previous week however that was not to be. The 2nd half was full of individual mistakes on which TJ took full advantage.

On 55 mins an interception by TJ on the halfway line was completed with a try between the posts and a conversation 21 -7 to TJ. On 65 mins a yellow card to Bracknell. With one man in the bin TJ scored a try on 71 mins between the posts and completed the conversation to 28-7. With Bracknell back to full strength no further scoring took place. Final score 28-7.

Thoughts; Bracknell contained TJ in the first half to only 2 tries Bracknell had the bulk of the possession but failed to create any significant chances. The Wind with Bracknell in the 2nd half thoughts of the first away win this season did look on the cards regardless of the 1st half score. However with a string of individual handling errors and bad decisions the hope of the travelling supporters disappeared as TJ capitalised on Bracknell's mistakes.

Next Saturday Bracknell face higher placed Guernsey at Lily Hill Park. Please come down and cheer on the boys and then there is a small matter of England vs Australia !!!
