"The team knew today would be a tough match and although we didn’t get the win we played really well and it was a pleasure to play alongside the ladies. We worked together to break through their line and in defence we put up a good fight"

On the 6th January it was time for Bracknell Ladies to welcome Hackney to Lily Hill for the returning fixture. With Hackney being the only team to have beaten Bracknell in the first half of their season, Bracknell were hungry to get the win.

As the whistle went Bracknell Ladies were quick to chase a high ball and put pressure onto Hackney who caught the ball and carried strong. Bracknell Ladies had a strong defensive line and worked hard to stop Hackney gain much ground.

In quick concession Hackney managed to find a break in the line and get over the white wash. Bracknell quickly realised that Hackney were a well drilled team who came hungry for the win. Of course, the girls did not allow this to dampen their spirits.

Throughout the entire match Bracknell were smashing through Hackney with strong carries from the forwards and offloads between the pack, before passing it out to the backs who used their quick feet and long legs to make their way around the strong Hackney team.

First to get a try for Bracknell was Shiv, who had an outstanding game making massive tackles throughout, she carried the ball over the line after beating two of the Hackney defenders.

Bracknell were unlucky later on as a try from Amber Clark was deemed held up, despite great efforts from the team.

The next try was to come from winger, Mia McCreesh, who worked well with Kirsty Robson and Joy Chapman to get space out wide before outpacing Hackney to get her first try of the match. Mia then stepped forward for the conversion, which was successful.

The final try of the match for Bracknell was from fullback, Joy Chapman. Throughout the match Joy made great cover tackles and put her body on the line to bring down Hackney, so it was great when she got the opportunity to get through Hackneys defensive line and redeem all her hard work. This was successfully converted by number ten, Megan Jones.

Final score Bracknell 19-31 Hackey 2XV

A few words from our captain, Hannah Taylor; “The team knew today would be a tough match and although we didn’t get the win we played really well and it was a pleasure to play alongside the ladies. We worked together to break through their line and in defence we put up a good fight. Really enjoyable game. Proud of you all ???”

Forward of the Match: Esmee Sturges, for an outstanding game at flanker as she peeled off quickly from the scrums and made great carries!

Back of the Match: Joy Westlake, for her fast pace and great cover tacklers!
