Bracknell headed to Teddington Ladies for their second league fixture of 2018. At 12.15 the whistle blew and the match commenced. Bracknell were quickly in sight of the try line after a quick ball from the back of a ruck which allowed Hannah Taylor to make a break. Good support lines from Tash King and Leanne Smith gave Taylor options on both sides, but she didn’t need it as she got the ball over the line for the first try of the match with an unsuccessful conversion
Teddington were quick to come back as their backs quickly stepped through Bracknell’s defensive line and sped over the try line. However a lineout in Bracknell’s favour gave the girls a chance to come back with points on the board. Lauren Clark pinged the ball to jumper Shona Webb and with quick reactions from the forwards Bracknell created a driving maul to once again draw themselves in sight of the try line. Hannah Taylor quickly passed the ball out to Amber Clark who promptly smashed through Teddington’s defensive line and over for the try. Esmee Sturges stepped up for the conversion and kicked successfully.
Helen Rosi came on field and controlled the game well and continued to push the girls on. The momentum in Bracknell’s favour steadily grew after great quick balls from Helen Rosi out the back of the ruck and strong carries from Nicola Stepp and Claire Gujer allowed Bracknell to start rumbling forward again. Zara King crashed the ball in managing to pop the ball to the hands of captain Tash King who ran most of the length of the field to dot down under the posts with another successful conversion by Esmee Sturges.
Teddington were quick to come back at Bracknell following quick hands and their winger outpaced Bracknell despite big hits from Leah Watts and Mealsy Whitbread. This didn’t dampen Bracknell’s spirit though, as sharp reactions from Caz Kirk allowed the ball to be in Bracknell’s hands again. The ball went wide to Esmee Sturges who paced across the field to get the try.
Half time score: 26-10 to Bracknell
The whistle blew for the second half and a lineout soon landed in Bracknell’s favour. Tash King received the ball and ran down the pitch offloading to Zara King who gave Teddington little chance of stopping her as she crashed over for a further 5 points to Bracknell.
Bracknell pushed on further for their final try of the match as Shiv Jamieson collected a pass from Amber Clark showing Teddington her pace and power to get the try. Esmee Sturges kicked a successful conversion to make the final score 38-10 to Bracknell.
Another great contest between the two team has given Bracknell more match time and plenty to improve on ready for London Irish next weekend.
Final score: 38 – 10 to Bracknell
