Bracknell Ladies 20 Redingensians Sirens 36

It was just under six months ago that a few Ladies decided that it would be a good idea to form a Ladies rugby team back at Bracknell RFC. Now with a number of a training sessions under their belt they faced their first game, vs Redingensians Sirens. It was quite opt that the Ladies would face Redingensians as a first game, as back in 1955 the clubs first ever game game was v Redingensians.

A very good crowd of both supporters had assembled at Lily Hill, on a sunny Sunday afternoon on which Lily Hill looked splendid in the May sunshine.

The game format was to be four quarters of 20 minutes each. It would the Sirens’ that would open the scoring with two well worked, and well converted trys, down the Bracknell flank. A further try from the Sirens openside, this time unconverted, took the Sirens lead to 19 points

With 35 minutes on the clock, the Ladies responded with a try of their own Laura Campbell doting down after showing a clean pair of heels to the Sirens defence.

There was just enough time for the Sirens full back to extend the Sirens’ lead just before half time. Again the try was expertly converted.

The Ladies now playing towards the clubhouse opened the second half scoring. A fine wrap round in the back line saw Jess Davis cross the whitewash. 10-26.

With the Sirens scoring a try through their outside centre, the Ladies answered with a try of their own Amber Clark breaking off a scrum to score. 15-31.

With the Ladies awarded a penalty in the Sirens 22. Skipper Tash King taking the tap, saw a gap to put a grubber kick through. The confusion that this caused in the Sirens defence allowed the Ladies score their fourth try of the game. Zara King supporting well to touch down. There was just enough time in the game for the Sirens to score a final try.

Great credit must go to both sets of players who produced an absorbing and entertaining game for the crowd. For many of the players it was their first ever game of rugby.

Although the Sirens won the game on the day, the real winner was the game of rugby union who hopefully has 30 or so converts to this great game!!! Vice Captain Helen Rosi confirming after the game that the Bracknell Ladies have 26 players registered for next season.
