Bracknell U14 started the day with a couple of returning speedsters in the backs in Riley and James and were ready to make amends for the last-minute defeat of their mates in the Devs. Rams were clearly up for the challenge with their players and parents vocal from the outset but within 2 minutes, Bracknell went wide with Charlie almost scoring in the corner (getting it wide and almost scoring…what a good idea, note to coaches). The following breakdown saw Bracknell win a penalty and George W powered his way over from 5 yards. Freddy B then kicked the extra 2 points in a good lick from close to the touchline and 0-7, game on!
The following 20 minutes was close with both teams showing good attack and defence. George W continued to make good yardage, backed up by excellent rucking from the boys. George M made a good break through the middle of the field with 2 minutes to go in the half, busting through countless tackles only to be tackled by the fullback at the end however the following penalty resulted in Braxton smashing over from close range and Freddy adding the extras once more 0-14 at half time.
Both teams continued to go at it in the second in what was a very physical and fast game. Bracknell had more chances to score, and in truth should have scored another 2 or 3 however Rams stayed in it and scored from a 5 metre scrum with ten minutes to go. The defensive effort in the last ten was excellent as it was all day and so Bracknell held onto what was a fantastic win and a real step forward. We asked the boys to take the momentum from the end of the Windsor game into this one and they did and you could see what it meant to all the players (and parents ?) at the end. One for coaches and players to work on…getting it wide. We have pace to burn and we need to get the ball into the wingers hands and we’ll score a load more…so work to do but great progress
Shout out to the front row, Oscar, Bailey, Will and Finn P (stepping into hooker for the first time). It was a tough game for them and they all put in a real shift. Also Freddy B for the Rams pick as player of the game with good kicking for goal and out of hand.
