Lewis Moody will undertake a 500 mile cycle challenge starting in Newcastle and finishing at Twickenham, delivering the Match Ball for the Premiership Final on Saturday 20th June.
The challenge is in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, whose mission is to create a world free of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Doddie Weir, the former Newcastle Falcons’ captain, passed away in 2022 at the age of 52 after a six-year battle with the disease.
The teams penultimate stop will be Bracknell RFC arriving at about 4pm. We encourage as many members and supporters to gather at the club from 3pm and be by the finishing arch to welcome him home.
The Team should be with us for about an hour after their arrival.
The Challenge
The challenge is in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, whose mission is to create a world free of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Doddie Weir, the former Newcastle Falcons’ captain, passed away in 2022 at the age of 52 after a six-year battle with the disease.
Lewis Moody announced last year that he had been diagnosed with MND, and is working alongside Weir’s family to continue what he started. Many of Lewis’ rugby friends will be taking part including his fellow ex Tigers players Martin Corry, Ben Kay, Tom Croft, Geordan Murphy, Leon Lloyd, Ben Youngs, Tom Youngs, Dan Hipkiss and Louis Deacon.
The group will cycle from Newcastle (Doddie’s club) down to the Allianz Stadium to arrive for the Gallagher PREM final, stopping at all five of Lewis’ clubs along the way.
This includes his first club, Bracknell and school in Oakham and his professional clubs, including Leicester Tigers.
Lewis’ teenage sons, Dylan and Ethan, also plan to take on the challenge alongside their father as a reflection of the Moody family’s shared determination to make a difference.
