In wonderful autumn conditions, Bracknell kicked off and instantly applied pressure, venturing towards the Thatcham tryline with purpose. The pressure told, and ten minutes in, on his return to match action, Riley Lewington broke through to score the opening try. Alfie Gooch added the extras for Bracknell to lead the home side 0-7. The next ten minutes were balanced as Bracknell tried to string some continuity together, but a small error lead to Thatcham exploiting a broken defence, dotting down out wide. Game on at 5-7. Bracknell responded swiftly, going through the phases, allowing debutant Tawen Gurung to break free and run to the line, only for the ball to be spilled in the act of scoring. A let off for Thatcham and a lesson for Bracknell. The half ending with no further scores.
In the second half, Thatcham came out fighting, and quickly took the lead with a clever line out move, exploiting the short side. The home team lead for the first time 10-7. Four minutes later, Bracknell responded, through Teddy Bartlam who dotted down for his first try of the season. Bracknell back in the lead, by two points at 10-12 and in control. The scoreline widened as Riley sped in for a superb solo try, getting the ball in space and outpacing the defence. Alfie again adding the extras, Bracknell lead 10-19. Soon after Tawen made up for his first half error, scoring after powering through. Zabi P-S slotted the conversion to make it a seven point score, 10-26. The final try of the day came from Daniel Whiffin, who drove over from short range. Alfie slotted another conversion, making the final scoreline a comfortable 10-33 win.
A solid performance from Bracknell, whose new players added some new elements to the Bracknell attack.
